what was autotheme problem?

I followed the instructions to the letter on how to install, uploaded the files, and the whole site crashed. The only part that "wasn't" followed, was where it said to update the theme files, a couple weren't there, so I followed the autotheme instructions to where the file should be. Updated those and moved on. Tried it a couple different ways but still couldn't get it to work.

Basically I could care less how it is done, just looking for a way to get one particular area of my forums to be in sync with my home page, and to have a quick reply feature. If there is an easier way to accomplish this, with preserving the current layout then it doesn't bother me any. I just know that the forum news advance already accomplishes this.

ah i see,well it would help if someone replies that knows more of the autotheme.
