Is there a mod/hack that allows you to make a forum topic out of a news item?

Instead of comments it would be good to start a forum discussion on a news item. with the text being the first post.

How about the reverse? There is a forum news module that displays forum topics as news stories..

mmmm, might work, can it be configured to use one forum for the info. If so, it might do the trick, like you say in reverse, might be worth a look.

thx

I think Guardian2003 is using something like that. It uses the backend.php output to create forum topics...

The simplest one I know of is a script called Find Input (Find being the acronym for Forum Integrated News Delivery).
It is pretty basic but works quite well. In brief it will take any valide RSS/XML feed and put it in a forum. There are admin configurable options for setting up feed url's the number of 'items' to pull from each feed and which forum they should be fed to.
In theory you could have one feed per forum if you want or multiple feeds per forum but NOT one feed for multiple forums.
If you need a link I'll try and dig it out.

thx guys, I've done some more research based on kguske's reply and am thinking of trying Forum News Advance, which seems to do a fair amount.
