Strange Error "Could not delete old search id sessions&

I just received a strange error while searching my forums:

Could not delete old search id sessions

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1153 Got a packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet'

The rest of the screen was filled with more info; this was the very beginning of the error.

Does anyone have any idea what might have caused this error?

well if you search on google you get enough results but dont give any solution to the error.

You must empty your table phpbb_session .
