hi
i did a forum prune set the value a little too high OOPS!

i have a backup from 30/01/2011
i have just backed up again 03/02/2011

what i need is to put those two back together again Omiting Topics and Posts
avoiding any cross over of them. puting my DB back together.

i did do a search but found nothing similar.

If the backup is in a text file you might be able to edit it and delete the topics and posts table from the second backup and copy them in from the first. If you have large forums the file sizes could be huge though. You might want to run the restore on a localhost type system first to verify that it works correctly. I would be concerned about relations between tables that you might not be aware of when combining files like that.

If you have the backup in a text file that's editable, it is not rocket science to edit it. Just use a good editor ... not notepad.

I don't know how active your forums are. If there aren't a large number of posts you might want to just restore from the earlier backup and tell everyone that everything after 2/1 was lost and they need to reenter it. That way at least the backup would be consistent. You can run into some subtle consistency problems restoring part from one backup and part from another and you might not even see them right away.

right i shall leave a explanation since fkelly aswell as many other gave me helpover the years.

here is a RUN down of what i did since i pruned too much.
this is based on the fact you backed up recently .

in my own case i lost like 3 years worth of posts/topics.....Yeah i`m a nooB!!
(posts that had not been posted too in more than 100 days).

1./ find your backup from last week (yeah i can hear you screaming lol)
2./ take a fresh backup.

download this [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]
(hopefully you got Xampp installed on your Computer as a test server, if not use a second (test site)on your webserver plenty of info on this site for doing Xampp. in the How To forum

then simply compare the files very easy to use swiftcompare.
upload your complete NUKE_POSTS, post_text/topics/topics_watch
back onto your test server to see if it worked OK.
if it is put it back on your website /forum.

anyone got any question or stuck reply to this.
i shall put a proper Tutorial together when i get some timewith pictures

this method worked for me.

if i have missed anything out i`m sure someone will reply lol.
