During last 3.5 weeks (our plan was 3 weeks), the team achieved the ultimate embedded phpBB3ToNuke 3.0.4. Now, phpBB3ToNuke by nukekorea dev network (Home of phpBB3ToNuke) entered the final phase: how to install, multilingual sychronization, and the synchronization of Nuke theme-pack with phpBB3 Styles.
Even though the team has its own goal to perfect phpBB3ToNuke, the team would like to hear good comments on the final Release Candiate as follows:

- Comments and Discussion : [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]
- Dev. Log and History: [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

1. what is the best installation method?
2. what embedded interfaces will be favored?
3. whether or not bb2-to-nuke DB should be converted?
4. extra features site admins and users would likt to add.

Please DO NOT MISS reading the extended words for beta test participants.

The following IDs in nuke community will be honored and Nuke Korea would like to express nothing except for Great Thanks
- manik (United States)
- Duck (Canada)
- Albayco (Turkey)
- Scott (Sony Designer - United States)

Extra Credit to support in warm heart:
Raven (United States)

bluerace , what I would like to see is what was suggested on nukekorea.net.

1- The best method is per module install
Upload the content of phpbb3tonuke in the module file , go to /modules/phpbb3/INSTALLATION and woop woop ...

2- What do you mean by embedded interfaces?

3. Nope, i'm very familiar with the actual db and it would be a pain for the mods. Thats my opinion.

4- Extra Feature
-the ability to have a linkback to admin.php;
-Maybe integrate the boards administration under admin_graphic?
-The ability to export posts and forums to the BB3ToNuke

Suggestion : create a phpbb3tonuke.com

Thank you, first of all.

Already completed in the same way that phpBB3 does.
eldorado wrote:

Never mind.
eldorado wrote:

we made and tested a converter from bbtonuke to phpBB3ToNuke. That was good. Only what is the program in this program is not the complexity of DB. Problems are
1) only standard phpBB2 db structure will be transfered. All mod will be gone. But this does not happen in phpBB3 and phpBB3ToNuke because all MODs are plug-in styles.
2) DB character coding problem. phpBB3 and phpBB2Nuke uses UTF-8, which becomes a trend to semi-standard. Normalization programs in php was created but still not tested yet.

eldorado wrote:
4- Extra Feature
That's excellent.
eldorado wrote:

Already discussed and decided.
eldorado wrote:
-Maybe integrate the boards administration under admin_graphic?
We discussed three options.
1) under Grpahic Admin (tested, worked, but rejected after converging opinions and comments)
2) inside of center position with two sided block area (tested and rejected)
3) independent admin like old bbtonuke. However it has preview and links to go back to Graphic Admin
eldorado wrote:
-The ability to export posts and forums to the BB3ToNuke
users can access phpBB3ToNuke from two sides:
stand-alone phpBB3 and phpBB3ToNuke - truely bidirectional. However, Duck showed a serious arugment on this. We are thinking over this.

eldorado wrote:

Unfortunately, my life is not a such scripting. Tons of experiments in my labs await me like a train.

More featured adds-on are as follows:
featured contents style of Forum blocks:
- top poster (Duck strongly suggested)
- random
- most popular
- most discussed
- most recent

In admin section, admin will control
- # of sampling
- featured contents fly-by options
- selection of categories hierarchies, which means no sampling if admins do not want. (selective forums and forum category sampling)
- Forum tree browser (extra adds-on with no changes on phpBB3ToNuke)

In fact, what I am seriously worring about is "time" and "documentations."

Oh, by the way, I am not bluerace. I am using the same machine but she does not log out and my laziness made me write in bluerace's ID.
I am toolbox.

Sorry.

One more.

Proably, this is really really critical to future users:

as long as you have phpBB3, you will use them WITH NO CHANGES.
Simply bring the DB into phpnuke DB.
Upload phpBB3ToNuke.
change dbname, db username, db password, and sql type.

Then, it will come up into your phpnuke.
I think this is a very very good news. This non-stop importing and exporting features are so mindful so far.

Anyways, your kind and good suggestions will make phpBB3ToNuke be spendlid.

By the way are you serious to say "phpbb3tonuke.com?"

I think Elderado's comment of integrate under Graphics Admin might referential and not literal. (As I had meant when I said the same thing)

By this I mean a link to phpbb3 Admin from the graphics admin Not the actual whole graphics admin residing above the phpbb3 Admin on a page.

Am I correct Elderado?

Cause if I am I believe Toolbox thinks that is what you are asking that when in phpbb3 Admin you see the Nuke Graphics Admin on the same page above the phpbb Admin.

How about Data exportation from BBtonuke2 to bbtonuke3? Are you guys planning to do that? Can users upgrade their boards easy?

@Duck &Toolbox. actually I was referring to Iframing it under admin_graphic. I just tested it on my phpbb3 bridge version , it sucks and you were right to reject it.On the other hand having mixed admin pannel isn't good Very Happy

Now on the other hand , I would rather see a simulacrum of phpbb3 admin pannel on a left block. You see having a very quick link to access forum permissions is necessary for my admins.

@Duck: Yes Toolbox didn't answer me. Will we be able to upgrade the bb2 forum to bb3?

As I posted captures, I had neverr used iFrame under admin_graphics.
Duck, edlorado says "not admin icon menu like bbtonuke," but add iframe under graphics.

stop by these three test shots.
As I told you, there is no iframe things and no fake bridges.
[ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

All shorts are real screen from tests.

I described the weak points when I put admin under grahics admin.

I answered your question about bbtonuke to phpbb3tonuke.
That conversion scripts are already tested and done.
It will be optional to users.
As you understand, we are not in the business side for this. Therefore, supporting users are not the matter of ours.

Have attempted to install this on one of my local setups of RN and the install procedure for phpbb3tonuke can not see the rnconfig.php file. Pops up an error message unable to find or no such file. If I comment out the line in the config.php file for RN about rnconfig.php then I can not access the setup since it shows me using a 127.0.0.1 ip which is invalid. Any idea on how I can get it to see and use the rnconfig.php file?

What?

How could you install phpBB3toNuke ?
We HAD NEVER released this package yet.

for Raven's Nuke, we are testing.

I don't understand what you posted as follows

Does my post sound harsh?
Oh, no it was not.
Never mind.

Recently, I became to know donkey bridge to phpBB3.
That's not ONE OF EXTREMELY unhopeful way to port phpBB3.

10 mins installation they said. But that is a sort of cheating way.

We tested installation in weekend days off-line togetehr (all teams were stopped by toolbox home with his four dogs) and tested the installation locally.
it takes just 2 minutes (simply upload 30 seconds, install 1 minutes, and configuration).

anyways, the truly embedded phpBB3 will be OFFICIALLY NAMED AS phpBB3ToNuke not bridge bra bra bra.

Thanks FireATST.
The integration was done and in the final phase (installation).
Also, we are testing it with Raven NUKE 2.3.x as well.
So far so good and very soon it will be avilable with Raven NUKE too.

Just out of curiosity, which version of phpBB3.x are you porting exactly?

phpBB3 3.0.4
In fact, the version does not matter if phpBB3 3.+ because it will follow automatic updates from nukekorea backend.

For instance, when users install plug-in mod (phpBB3 mod) to there phpBB3toNuke, then automatically it will upgrade from a phpbb3tonuke back-end support server.

If they don't want, then download patches or upgrader from [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

I wrote several times: phpBB3ToNuke 3.0.4 RC1.

So this is definitely an integration, rather than a bridge?

I know this has been discussed many times before, both internally and externally here, but I believe we were favouring a bridge over a full integration like the current phpBB2tonuke is. So I am interested to know why you have chosen this route.

BBToNuke code became too much to invest in. I am favoring a bridge as well Smile

I'm sure that the answer is in the concept we are trying to achieve , web2.0 cms. I can't see a cms without a forum unless it's for e-commerce.

I'm sure a lot of people will love and use a full integration of phpbb3 with nuke. A bridge has advantages too. Options and choice will only enhance RavenNuke and make it better.

eldorado, I'm not saying we shouldn't have a forum in RN, but a bridge has always been our favoured option, because in theory any forum can be easily incorporated thereby giving a wider choice to users.

jakec, seems I misunderstood you. I think what I really did misunderstand is that "bridge=not_part_of_the_cms". Sad which isn't true right? ...
I know bridge is better because you can mod the software better.I know I've been favoring bridges before going to nuke. But I know bridges weren't really in the cms. It did look weird to have a forum and a site.

From now on I guess I should read a bit more and watch from where I am.

i really like the idea of being able to choose the forum that you like most to work with the CMS that you love best re the bridge effect, i just find this allows for all elements within the package to be updated without much hassle.

My question is though, if you get to this level of coding with raven nuke an make it happen seeing raven nuke is based around nuke this means it would no longer be based around nuke, it would be more a CMS package add on for you're fave forum
would this mean a name change for eg Raven Suite you're fave CMS add on package for all forums ? cause to me it would no longer be Nuke.

But the Bridge as it has been called in this topic i think is a great step forward

Keep up the great work guys Smile

With each release of RN we have broken the tie to/with phpnuke in themes, security, (X)HTML compliance, functionality, etc., with v2.2 and v2.3 really branching off. And with each release hereafter it will continue. Yes, for backward compatibility we have kept some of the structure but the code has undergone over 20,000 changes! You can read the change logs to get just a feel for what has changed. The 3 column look has been around before phpnuke and continues to be the most common "theme" design for most CMSs.

Not only have we already separated the integration of phpbb2 (phpbb2nuke) but in future releases, including the next release, you will see all modules being compartmentalized so that a true add/remove capability is achieved. In other words, all modules will be autonomous - they will not depend on nor mess with other modules/includes/etc. unless by design and I hope not to have any Wink.

As to the name change - For more than 3 years (or even longer) this has been debated. Having nuke in the name has both pros and cons. While it is a viable option, at this point we have set it aside (discussion wise) as we concentrate on development.

Rain: Welcome to the forums!
