I've been trying to dump a RavenNuke MYSQL database using PHPmyadmin and then import it to a different server. Certain special characters are giving me fits. For instance the blocks table contains something like:

Quote:
<strong><big>·</big></strong> <a href="admin.php">...

in the content field. If I dump it to a file I get:

Quote:
'<strong><big>·</big></strong>

in the content field. Funny, but if I dump it to the screen I get the "." where it should be. I realize a period is not a middot by the way but otherwise I am not very educated on special characters and character sets and collating sequences, sorry.

Now I can copy and paste from the screen output to a sql file that can be used but that's kind of a p.i.t.a for large dumps.

I've tried various compatibility mode settings in PHPmyadmin and they at least (using mysql4 for instance) eliminate the default charset latin1 output that causes an error on the import, but they don't fix the dot issue.

I also tried the cpanel backup but that also buts the A with an accent character to be output rather than the middot that I think I need.

Anyone know a quick reliable fix to this?

Same thing happens to me all the time. Not sure why phpMyAdmin doesn't like the &middot;

I just go into nuke_blocks and change it.
