LibreOffice is actually part of the default installation with both Ubunutu and Linux Mint (I prefer Mint as the Cinnamon menu and front end GUI are more to my liking).

I'm going to wait until it's released as part of the Linux Mint 16 package sometime in November.

I think the only problem you might encounter is the graphics card being too old. I'm not sure what Cinammon requires but I think it needs 3d graphics capability. Ubuntu's (muc hated by me) Unity GUI definitely needs 3d capability but if you are already using Mint with an older version of Cinnamon, you should be ok.
I had Mint 15 with Cinnamon running ok on a 7 year old Dell laptop but gave it to a student when I left Czech Republic. He's a big Windows fan and recently bought a Windows Surface machine to add to his collection. His favourite machine? - my old laptop with Mint Smile
