missing admin menu??

I can't see the admin menu! Well, it's there, its just that the only link in the menu is Logout.

Did my ftp'ing miss something again?

And the answer is a big yes ...

Sounds like it hasn't recognized you as an admin. Look in authors and users table. Is your user level 2?

Well that exploration led me to the conlcusion that a squeeky clean install is best, too much history on the server messed me up.

I spent more time convincing my ftp that I really did want to overwrite the old file and then all the errors went away.

Next task to config and adding stuff, where I get to break it and you all get to point out the error of my ways.
