time datetime in stories table

Where can I find out how to format the posting date of an article pulled with an sql query of the stories table to the format of Wednesday, July 12 ?
I want to build a marquee application that will pull the latest article from 5 different topics and have them scroll across the top of the screen, in the format of

Code:

<marquee>$topictext-- <a href =modules.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=$sid\">$title</a>- Posted by $informant on Wednesday, July 12</marquee>

but I'm having problems finding an example of the code in nuke or phbb that converts the data into the text. I see numerous examples online, just haven't been able to find the exact one in an existing file.
