I'm just asking to see if anyone knows a way to grab an external file if allow_url_fopen is disabled.

The only alternative I have seen is cURL. That is also not enabled.

Any ideas?

Would a solution be reading the page (not the file), parsing the text to display?
something like that?

Thanxs djmaze

I could not use your class in PHP 4, but I used fsockopen() directly to get what I wanted. Thanxs for pointing in the right direction

djmaze, was the download removed? The link provided in the post keeps coming up as "file doesn't exist".

Excellent work!

I read enough of the original post to get a feel for the approach and just glossed over the subsequent posts (would read later in detail). Indeed an excellent idea. Hat's off to you...

So, then, why am I getting this error on trying the second link?

Code:

The URL that you requested, http://cvs.moocms.com/moo/moo_core/libraries/stream_wrappers/http.php?v, could not be found. Perhaps you either mistyped the URL or we have a broken link.

We have logged this error and will correct the problem if it is a broken link.
