how to import a lot of ip's

Hi,
Can someone please tell me how to import a lot of ip's into sentinel. Specially when I visit nukecops, they have a whole bunch of ip's to ban. I like to just cut and past those into sentinel. How do I do that.

to be honest.....dont.
thats pretty useless because they are collected ip's and isnt relative for you to ban.
all that comes to your site and dont behave gets banned and that should be enough.

If you use .htaccess, then just add them to your .htaccess file prefaced by Deny from, as in
Deny from 200.0.0.0

okay okay....ive got like 4 files...thats about 4mb....lol
You can have that to steve,and if you ask nice at the nukecops forum they will provide you even more...

hiwalker,

I hope you are joking about 4MB. If not, that is a candiate for a db solution, and not htaccess.

no im not,thats the truth.
i got the first pack they once offered.
that was 4 mb,but if you know sentinel a litle bit then you realise that adding ip's is useless..
if some is doing anything to your site then they get banned.
so thats why i didnt answered your question realy but gave advice instead.....lol

If you check your logs daily you can add several IPs into the blocker.

Another option is to create a file called host.deny and upload it to your /etc directory using the following format for denying access:

ALL: IP ADDRESS : DENY

example:

ALL: 12.104.172.224 : DENY
ALL: 12.104.198.106 : DENY
ALL: 12.104.222.131 : DENY
ALL: 12.104.222.131 : DENY
ALL: 12.104.232.18 : DENY
ALL: 12.104.252.122 : DENY
ALL: 12.104.252.174 : DENY

This method does not use sentinel though, but is another method for disallowing access to specific IP's

Well i have 3 sites running on phpnuke and all with sentinel.(rest is mambo)
All i do is sit back,smile and see idiots get banned,crawlers get banned and giving me clicks cause they are redirected to a paid click url....lol
That was someones idea....... Smile

Sentinel does it all curtis,so i have no idea why i should add ip's by hand...

I agree, however the question that was asked was how to import a large number of IP's

I merely gave an answer that was an additional option for those that prefer to block preemptively instead of waiting for the first attack attempt.

While I agree that Sentinel will handle just about anything thrown at it, I still prefer to answer questions not based on my personal methods and opinions, but in a manner that shows I am trying to answer the question impartially. Savvy? Smile

In other words, what works for us may not be the way others wish to go about it. Hence the reason I offered an alternative method that is also proven to work.

well i agree but some advice should also be given..
as to the importing ip's,it doesnt mean that imported ip's are excluded from attacking your site.
A few months ago i had a some idiots attacking my site a few times a day.
sentinel blocks them from entering a website but it cannot control what people do from a distance..
I know cause sentinel banned the same ip 3 times...
All gathered info was identical.

And i have a nice program here that lets me surf on the internet anonymous.
With one click i can let google search for anonymous proxies and get 2 or 3000 back.
Filtering them leaves about 6 or 700.
I can do that every day curtis...
So knowing all that..
So with that in mind i feel you should let sentinel do all the work,thats what its made for.

My first instinct was to quote my last message because apparently you missed, mis-read it or something.

You are correct in your advice, but it is not the only answer, nor does it really answer the question of how to import many blocked IP's. Sure there are always ways around the blocked IP issue. But as I stated already, I merely answered the question that was posted with an alternative method of mass blocking instead of using this thread as my "my personal opinions and methods are the only way of doing things" speech.

So, with that stated are we gonna just argue over the fact that you feel that your way is the only correct way or can we get back to answering people's questions and help requests? *LOL*

Ok, I can see you are trying to make a point. I will not attempt to help here anymore.

I wasn't interested in getting into a contest of knowledge. As always I answer the posts that touch on something I am familiar with. But if that means I am gonna have to contend with my suggestions turning into threads like this it just isn't worth subjecting others having to read useless bickering and disagreements.

There are enough reasons for our site, (i.e. content thieves and other "friends") but of course this wasn´t the question.
I also noticed that many people rarely checked their log files,so they got no ideas which IP´s they can ban.
