Yes, I still use 6.9 because it would take more time than I have to go to 7.6. And, there really are no additions after 6.9 that I need.

Hey Raven,

I'm also looking for the most stable secure version and I was told 7.5 or even 7.4 would be better.

I tried your 7.6 patched and when I seleceted the forums module I got an error. I forget what it was exactly. N E wayz....

I'm definately going to try 7.5 and see, unless anyone has any reasonable reason to believe it's unstable or insecure.

I suppose the best way is, if at first you don't suceed, downgrade, downgrade again.

The error I get is access denied.
I changed my config file to another name... and the link it tries to open ends in
Myconfigfile.php?op=forums

I went into the module and found the correct file to play around with the admin
I'm not too interested in fixing it at the moment, I have a more pressing issue to deal with. besides that error, it seems to be working, but I got a new problem that's baffling me....

I created a new installation in another directory and pointed another domain to it. I tried using the same database and I tried creating a new database but I can't seem to get it working.

When I go to the new index or admin file, I just get a blank page.
I was fooling around with Maximus and encountered this problem after the install so I deleted my .htaccess file. I read somewhere that it could be caused by the .htaccess.

NEwayz.... I now can't seem to install any version without ending up with a blank page. I tried removing all the directories and recreating them from scratch but no luck. Same result. I tried your version of 7.6 with the v3 patch and still had no luck getting it running.
Amazingly my original version above is still running with no additional problems.
I can't understand why it doesn't work for me.

If I remember correctly, I got the original version from phpnuke.org and I added the V3 patch myself. It seems your bundled version doesn't work for me.

Nukedagain.

I have a 7.5 site installed and running for almost a year (multiple upgrades, started at 7.2). I have been holding off on the next upgrade round (wanting to avoid 7.6) and since my last look I see that 7.7 and 7.8 are now both available. Should I upgrade to 7.7/7.8 or just apply the 3.0 fixes to my existing 7.5?

My desire for upgrading is as follows:
performance
security
possibly some new features
but I really don't want to have to completely redo my theme and I have made a number of blocks which I want to still function.

Comments/suggestions?

Thank you!

eak - stick to your 7.5 installation. Just ensure you have the latest patches from Chat and Sentinel installed.
As far as I am concerned, there is nothing in 7.7 or 7.8 that is a *must have* feature.
If you must have a wysiwyg editor, try SPAW from keodetech or the FCKEditor - both are add-ons and probably far more secure than FB's effort.

If you need an advertising / banners feature - I gather they do not even work! Try phpAdsNews which although is a big install it has every feature you could possibly want for advertising.
