Will we have to wait another year for fixes?

Do we need to wait for 1 year more to udate the package if we find some errors? it will be nice to upload the whole package again if someone finds any issues right? I don't know but that's my opinion.

No, I promise you that won't happen if at all possible. I will release a FIX PACK of some kind or possibly a 2.51 or 2.50.01 after maybe a few weeks or months depending on the severity of the issues, after the dust settles. Itmt, folks will just have to visit these forums to stay up to date on code fixes.

Just for curiosity, would you prefer a web based SVN where you could grab all the code as we fix it? With the caveat that there could still be errors. You could then add feedback also.

That will be fantastic. Good idea Raven, it could be nice to see a pastebin or upload browser if someone would like to convert themes too or would like to send a whole file .php

Hate to say it though, you do not get enough donations to make it free. I would charge a very nominal subscription fee for this type of access. There are just too many free-loaders out there who just don't care about fixed costs...

Bingo ! It´s ecactly like Montego said. They don´t care if you can cover the expenses or not.
Fixes are always posted in the forums.So you have not to wait for the next release. For the most people is this enough service.

True. However, paying users will be able to access the fixes/enhancements that we do along the way that never hit the forums, of which we know there are many of those Wink

unicornio, we welcome contributions of time, too. With more people involved in developing, testing, documenting, and supporting RavenNuke, the sooner improvements and fixes can be released.

I have also mentioned previously that as a module/theme developer, I would be willing to pay a nominal fee for access to the latest builds too. It will help us to be ready to hit the market soon after release with new "goodies" made possible from new enhancements, or to avoid a breakage if something has been changed.

New releases of modules and themes in support of new RN features just adds to the good buzz of the CMS! Smile

Just a 2 cents note here but I don't think I'd take to kindly for having to pay for a fix. An enhancement maybe but not a fix. Course it is a free product which changes the argument slightly, but if you buy something you expect it to work. If it doesn't you should get warranty coverage or money back. The fact that it is a free product shouldn't change that expectation completely but only come with leniency for errors by the end user. Otherwise it is kinda restrictive of what open-source is meant to be.

If you're in it to make money then that is a different story but then of course you need to rethink the whole project and how it is managed then but it still won't change the fact that a product should be error free and if it isn't should be fixed freely (whether it was a paid product or free one to begin with). Enhancements though is definitely worth paying for. That is just my 2 cents.

I don't think the idea was to pay for fixes. Fixes will always be in the forums for free. This was to allow access to the latest build through the SVN. They would be paying to have access to the upcoming release before it is finished.

I would offer that security fixes should and will be free. However, I think you may have misread the/my intention of the monetary issue. Many, and probably most of the issues have the answers stated in the forum. Nothing would change there. Note these 2 statements I made above.

I am referring to bugs, enhancements, etc. that we find that aren't security related nor necessarily major issues. If users find errors and introduce them into the forums, then we will respond accordingly, in the forums. The small amount of income that I am speaking about is really access to the SVN. Basically, nightly builds, if you will. I don't see that there is any imperative to always give away the baby with the bathwater Wink
