I always wondered why the Nuke search only included Stories, Comments, Users.

What happened to Contact, Encyclopedia, Journal, Weblinks and the other modules...

Having a different search box per module excluding Stories, Comments, Users is not a good practice. One search should search the whole site.

My 2 cents

You are d*** right. I as you truly don't understand this behavior of the search module. I think there are discussions here talking about possibly replacing it with MSearch but this project is no longer maintained as far as I know and Kevin is the only one giving some support for the module.

But it is a great module and I will like to get it included for RN 2.4

It is also easily extensible so if you have a custom module you add it so it can seamlessly show results for your custom modules.

Yes, a new search facility would be nice, especially if it was intelligent to automatically default the search criteria depending on what module was in use i.e in Downloads it would automatically select 'downloads' but allow other criteria to be selected such as forums, news etc.

Would be pretty nice to have some sort of tag cloud for searched terms that produced a result.

Search is actually very similar to sitemap (actually, sitemap is like a search for everything). I used the class-based approach for the original sitemap, and have some improvements in the works. It could easily be extended using the content classes, but I also have a list of functional enhancements for search, too. Maybe we should use this as a forum to discuss those enhancements (i.e. in addition to searching all content types).

I'm speaking of the little checkboxes where it says search in articles, comments, users... It would be cool to have a setting for each module to add that module to the search page resulting in a new module with a check box.

Example: When editing the Journal module in admin it will say add to search Y or N. If set to Yes the search page would include "Journal" in the search by radio check boxes.

Check out the old mSearch function in use on nukeSEO.com.

There is a search configuration screen that allows to specify which modules are searched.

Just that it is no longer officially maintained/supported, will be cool to replace the current search module with this one, but it will need some (several?) tweaks here and there.

It works, but it's a little more complicated than it needs to be. It uses temporary tables in MySQL, but it doesn't need to do that because the results are sorted by content type anyway (i.e. it extracts the results to a temp table, but doesn't change the sort).

It does have a nice RSS .92 function that I'd like to integrate with nukeFEED (then you could publish a saved search feed in any format).

But it does have a much better function and appearance than the standard search module. You can download from nukeSEO and try it if you like.

Search should be modular to allow each module to define what is searchable. Shouldn't have to rewrite the search code itself just for each new module Smile

It's an ideal thought, but probably won't be done anytime soon (at least not by me Smile )

Love the ideas folks! I had made a msearch class for HTML Newsletter (a new version still being worked on... well, ok, was being worked on and hope to pick it up again). This type of thing just begs the use of an object-oriented approach. It made it so easy to add the new module content search.
