I posted this issue once before but no clues to date why this is happening. It's getting more regular now, every other day or so.

What happens is that I access my support site only to find that the only listing in the Main Menu is "home", nothing else. Sometimes another module or two "may" be listed but not always the same one(s). I check "Modules" and most all are "inactive" and "all users". I have to re-activate them and edit each one for viewing/access options, etc.

One clue mentioned previously is that when the DB is auto-optimized there may be a collision when a user accesses certain areas of the site. I disabled the optimize script but the problem still occurs.

I run RN 2.20.10 on a half-dozen sites but this ONE is the ONLY one that has the problem ...

Any ideas?

Cheers, Jay

If I remember correctly, the only time this table is touched in when you visit the modules admin page. Can you confirm that there is a link between this happening and you or another admin visiting the modules admin page?

I am the only one with admin access. And no, there is no access to the admin section followed by this anomaly. To confirm this, everything was just fine, went out to eat dinner and when we returned after an hour or so, the problem occurred when bringing up the site as anonymous without logging in.

Jay

Note: I will let it run for a few days without touching the admin module and see what happens.

Try replacing the modules block with an HTML block with appropriate links. It's possible for the modules block to remove the modules records if, for some reason, it cannot read them. If the problem discontinues, we'll know the source. If the problem continues, we'll rule that out. But my preliminary research indicates that as the most likely source of the problem.

I'll give it a try on one of my test domains running the same RN version to get it programmed correctly. Strange that it's not happening on any other domain.

I did notice in the error log at about the time that it happened tonight.

Several hundred lines, different IP's:

19:25:49 2008] [crit] [client xxx.xxx.xxx ] (23)Too many open files in system: /.htaccess pcfg_openfile: unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable

.htaccess is readable, dunno.

"to many open files" .. Bots maybe? I do get several thousand search engine hits daily.

Are the other sites on the same server? Do they have similarly high volume of traffic?

All sites on same server. But my intention is to see that my HTML works, no other purpose. My production site is too valuable to be monkeying around with it. I also just pruned out a couple thousand old posts, etc. I get hit really hard by search engines, especially Google. Also, my Apache max open file is at the upper limit.
