Ok, here the way my site works. We write daily weather updates using messages.

My problem is I want to create an administrator that JUST is able to make/edit messages, but not be a super administrator. Can someone lead me in a direction of doing this. There is no check box when making administrators for just messages. Thanks!

This can't be done without hacking the code. The problem is that Messages is not a module. When you assign administrative rights over a module the system puts an entry in the modules table for each administrator that you assign such rights to. Since there is no record for Messages in the modules table there is no way to assign rights to that.

I'd suggest just assigning them super admin rights and threatening dismemberment if they do anything except update the messages with those privileges.

Funny that you ask. I posted an article on my blog about this:

AWESOME! totally awesome. Very Happy I read through your blog post. Seems so simple. I don't have much time to do it tonight, but I will certainly do it tomorrow. Thank you so much.

And fkelly, that was my plan to do. It would have been a last resort unfortunately.

Thanks everyone, and I will let you know tomorrow evening how it goes. Very Happy Smile

Ok. I did everything step by step, and it did not show up in the add new admin section. The module is there in the modules section, just not in the add new admin.

??? Crying or Very sad

Well, I know this works, and on RavenNuke no less given that I have it working on one of my sites for quite some time. I would check step 1) again and make sure you have the links.php script where it says to have it.

I am having the same issue. Followed instructions step by step (I created case and links in Messages/admin) and everything else works except for when I Edit Admin/add new admin, there is no checkbox for Messages.

Ok... I must have screwed up the instructions then. I'll look at this again today and let you know what I messed up. Sad

Bang Head

Sorry about this folks! I did forget a piece... Embarassed I have updated the instructions. You need to have an index.php script in the modules/Messages/admin directory.

So sorry....
