Ok, idk what im doing wrong, im using a freehost and i asked them if RavenNuke will work and they said it would so....

I've FTP'd all the files/folders in the html folder into the main directory, i've created a brand new database and made sure i was able to login to it, and then i go to my main website and i get nuthing, i just get the free host's backup advertisement page(means bad url or something along that line), oh yah and i also chmod the .htaccess,.staccess,and the ultramode.txt to 777, any ideas of what i did wrong?

1. FTP Files/Folders
2. Create Database
3. Chmod files
4. Go to main page....(Dont Work)
5. [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ] (Dont Work)

Any Ideas of What I did wrong?
Thanks,

When you say you made sure you could log inti your database, did you login using your nuke config.php settings? Check your server error log to see if it details your error.

Shocked <soapbox>Just as an aside, I'd hate to have a host that restricts to that degree!</soapbox> Rolling Eyes

In your config.php file, set this setting to TRUE.
$display_errors = TRUE;

See if that will show the error.

Yah me either, but i can't afford a real host so i gotta use the Free one which means restrictions =(

No config.sys, prolly restricted access to it

Maybe I should find a diffrent host or something =/

You are not really free with your free host. Thats what the most young guys don´t realize and suddenly the free host is gone. Whats then? All your work is for nothing. Think about this. I could give you a long list of free hoster with mysql etc. but its not worth to install there a project with future. Thats my opinion.

well id like to setup a temp website for right now since the other one crashed, then by two weeks i should have a personal host/server to have the website on, so right now i just need a host that will work with RavenNuke so i can familiarize myself with it then once the server comes in i'll have no problem setting it up and configuring/modifying everything that I need to.

look in config.php.

I've double checked that thing over 10 times now. Its correct =/

I dont know whats up with it, Im only suppose to FTP the files/folders in html folder correct?, cause thats all i've done besides create a database,doesn't make sense why i can't see the basic mainpage thats suppose to be there before install of the mySQL tables, Raven would you be willing to have access to it and check it out?

Maybe you didn´t follow the steps exactly. Check the quick start again.
After the database tables are created you should point to:
[ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

and after the INSTALLATIONs folder is deleted

to:
[ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

$display_errors = TRUE; is already in your uploaded config.php ?

However, there are enough free hosts to try it out.
Good luck !

lol I've done the steps I'm stuck on step 7 in the QuickStart, this isn't that hard to do its just idk whats wrong, why i can't view the website, your suppose to be able to go to [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ] and its suppose to load it up but some reason it wont load, once i can get the webpage to load everything should be easy, also can somebody give me a link to another free host, try it out on a diffrent host see if thats the problem

yourworst, try starting over from scratch, but this time follow the more detailed step-by-step instructions that are in the HowToInstall manual. That one has more helpful hints and setup instructions. QuickStart is just for the more experienced RavenNukers who just need a simple reminder...

I did, currently im uploading the RavenNuke 2.10.00 instead of 2.10.01 maybe theres a diffrence, im using FileZilla this time too instead of SmartFTP, which with FileZilla, im getting alot of requests to overwrite a file on a fresh install? doesn't make any sense but we'll see what happens... =/

No, there is no reason to use 2.10.00. You will just have to upgrade then.

BTW, you keep saying "it doesn't work", but that doesn't give us much to go on. What does it do? Anything?

Just thought of something, since you are on a free host, don't set up the .htaccess file in the root. I just wonder if that's causing issues.

lol sry for saying "it doesn't work" but thats basically what happens, nothing, i upload all the files/folders from the html folder onto the host and then i create a database, setup the config.php, go to [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ] and i get transfered over to the hosts advertising page(meaning it couldn't find that directory)

kk well i just aborted the ftp transfer and about to delete all that i've FTP'd so far, then i'll FTP the 2.10.01 files and try again

We need to make sure that PHP is even running. Try placing a file called test.php in your root directory with this code in it:

Code:

<?php
echo "Hello World";
?>

Then navigate our browser to that page...

Might want to ask the host if they allow .htaccess.

i was reading through their forums and im pretty sure they do allow it, but i'll leave the .htaccess out, should i leave ALL of the .htaccess out or just the one in the root folder for now?

BINGO! Another instance of a poorly documented issue that only seasoned users are likely to be aware of.

I notice that RN still contains an '.htaccess' file and now also an 'example.htaccess' file. Idea Why not omit the former with a explanation in the Sentinel section of the installation guide that it is only required for certain Sentinel functionality, and how to edit/activate the latter only if their host supports it.

Then you wouldn't keep getting "WAH!! Nuke don't work when I try to set it up" (just like I did as a novice).

In reality, very few people have issues like this and so we prefer to shy on the side of "more protection out-of-the-box the better" and then we address the exceptions in the forums.

However, this is still good feedback and will be considered (we just may choose not to implement exactly as you have suggested is what I am getting at).
