I know this has been discussed in 2.02 distro but, now in 2.10, I can't seem to get the avatars showing...

I made sure all my paths were correct and still, no avatars. I have it set default:

modules/Forums/images/gallery/xxxx.gif(jpg, png)

both in phpbb admin config as well as inserting the path in through phpmyadmin (why? cause I can't access the galler folder from the site....which i recalled being able to do in 2.02...but no longer in 2.10).

I did see that in 2.10, you can upload and pull from another site but, no longer able to open the gallery folder from server and apply the avatar. Was I hallucinating on being able to do this in 2.02?

Please advise...

Well...is the directory actually there on your server? Do you have avatars in it?

I have mine set to /modules/Forums/images/avatars

FTP into your server and check it out, make sure your directory is there.

Yes, they are there. I've checked.

I just now noticed....the images have been resized (no, not by me....this was the BU)...I wonder...could this be the reason they are not posting is the size issue? If so, I just need to go and (yet again) resize all the images and re-up them and just make sure that the size is what the max setting in Forums (phpbb) config yes?

Gosh....I know now that the site has been tampered with....cause they were working fine before the move...GARRRRR! I'm so tired...HOW DO YOU GUYS DO IT????? FULL TIME EVEN! I'm only part timer!

I have so much respect for you all....to have the energy to do this day in and day out...it's like Soduko? (ku???) to me...numbers...hahahaha...oh gosh. I need rest.

Thanks Gremmie...for pointing that bit out...I'll let you know how I get on....So many thanks!

None of us are even remotely close to "full time"..., but it seems like another full time job sometimes. lol.

Yes, there is a size limit that you set in the Forum admin. You may also want to check to make sure your avatar directory has permissions of 777.

BTW, if I were you, I would not allow remote avatars. I believe that phpBB has fixed the issues with the uploaded ones, however, even that, with a directory that is 777, if you have security holes elsewhere in your server/scripts... it can be a bad thing. Sorry, only "concerns" and no "solutions". That is what web development is all about... keep really good backups of everything always!

Hahaha! I bet! Full time jobs indeed that is....

I will look into the size setting in the forums.

I guess, that is how it all started. I think whoever hacked the site, created a new batch of "moderators" with e-mails that resemble this enrico_szilard of [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ] and when I looked at some of the backed up d/b, some of the things were not set the way I set them up from the get go. I didn't get to see what else they tampered with so, these two things do tie together I think. Still my question remains, don't they need an admin password to hack the site? I mean, the only way to create moderators groups is signing in as admin so...I'm a bit confused.

Care to shed some light?

Not true. All it takes is you adding some new hack/module which has a security "hole" in it and almost anything can be done depending on how bad the hole is.

Key question: are you still running ONLY the core RN files?

montego, as far as I know I have the RN files running only....I believe. With the exception(s):

shoutbox
kalendar mx 1.4
gallery2
who is where
e-mail list

those are the only other things "running".....all of the modules were d/l'd either from nukescripts/nukecops/ravenphpscripts....

did that answer the question correctly? I know..I need more coffee!

kittyprrrs, it is always the exceptions that are of concern. This is not to say that someone will not find a hole in even RN. Nobody is perfect, especially not us. However, I think we'd be seeing a ton of hacks if it was strictly RN. So, that means if you have really been hacked, there could be a hole in one of the modules that you have listed.

Unfortunately, the only way to know for sure is to poor over your Apache logs to try and figure out how they got in.

I would be especially concerned with very old modules/hacks/blocks that are no longer being actively developed. Those are a big "risk" in my opinion. I personally do not like chat and shoutbox scripts as they are notorious for having issues, but unfortunately, I cannot comment on which are good or bad.

If I had to rank your add-ons in order of "risk" (a very subjective thing that I am doing here), from highest to lowest, I'd say:

shoutbox
e-mail list (only because I know nothing about it)
kalendar mx 1.4 (some older calendars had issues, but I don't know anything about this one - sorry)
gallery2
who is where (very doubtful that it has any issues).

Very nice to know montego. thank you. I know there is an updated version of shout box and you are right, i am running an older version. I will start looking for a newer version as soon as one is available. Although, no one uses it on my brothers site....

As for the avatars, hahahahaha! So, I've changed the forums-config-avatars>to 100x100 and 12kb as size max. Still, under 'your account, your info' no picture....odd cause it looked like it was loading then when it got back to my page or my Info page, nothing....

Advice?

****UPDATE! Ok, so apparently when I clicked "submit changes" under forums, config...it didn't take. I went back and changed it again and reloaded the page *after confirming that the avatars are in:

modules/Forums/images/avatars

both for gallery and for avatars.....

Saved (or submit) and BAM! Everything all fixed...my goodness...I tell you...this forums ROCKS!****
