The main reason why I will not add GT is that mod_rewrite is only available if you are running Apache. And, believe it or not, not everyone does. We're still working on converting them but not all have seen the light Laughing

Laughing Well I might make a nuke without GT, it doesn't seem that neccessary now, Sad but I'm going to install alot of hacks so hard to upgrade.

Raven..

I would be happy to be included in testing your next distibution Very Happy

Suggestion/Question:

Would it be possible to have a block that could provide "scrolling" messages that offers input from the Admin through the site's Admin (like adding a story currently is) for the site visitors Question

I am thinking along the lines of the presentation like the scrolling download block on your site, or is there already a block for doing this, that you are aware of and I can't find?

Bob,

Need some clarification here. Are you asking for a scrolling block of the News and/or messages?

To more specific, what I am looking for is a "Shotblock like" script, that ONLY the ADMIN can author in. Very Happy

Would it be possible to add another "Shoutblock" on my website that would restrict input to ONLY me? If it was possible to do this, would "both" Shoutblocks work without a collision of the scripts?

When I activated my "Shoutblock" on my site, it "stepped" over my scrolling forums-post block (making it inoperative).

So, I am wondering if there is a "work-around" for this? I believe this to be related to competition between 2 seperate scripts running Question

Appreciate the "feed back" but what I am really looking for is a type of scrolling "ShoutBlock" that ONLY the Admin can post to.

Ephemerids block (which I hadn't tried out, till I saw your suggestion) only allows a post from ADMIN for a given day and then goes blank the next day...it only presents recurring data listed for specific dates. Great for something like this happened today's date, in years gone by.

If I were to create a 2nd ShoutBlock on my website, is there a way to change the script that would ONLY allow the ADMIN (ME!) to publish to the block?

As the current script is written for the ShoutBlock, registered users are authorized to post.

Also, would there be a problem with running 2 seperate "ShoutBlock" on my website, without one colliding with the other?

Rolling Eyes ooops, now I've gone off topic. HitsFan

I like your idea for an admin shoutblock. But wouldn't you'd have path problems to the db, if you tried running two of them on the same site? Could you clone the module? shout and shoutadmin ?

<rant mode=on>
Imagine a complex functional Shout module... Where you can actually post a shout! Not just read history. My users love their shouts but with more than a hundred emoticons, and requests for more weekly, the HomePage is already full of stuff and having to watch those 100+ emoticons download each and every time I do a refresh of the home page... Crying or Very sad So, one module click away from the shouts is a good solution, imho.

Hi CodyG...

We are definately going to have to get back on topic Embarassed

Until then, I found a PHP script called "INFO-BLOCK" that works great from the Admin control panel.

I have been testing it locally on my server and works great (have been able to run 3 seperate INFO-BLOCKS at one time) very configurable. It includes an install script for the DB and is clean in operation.

The author however, NO longer works on it though.

It is so simple, even I was able to figure how to install and set-up and use it. Wink

OOOO another one?? I would love the calendar. groups, and protector. GT isn't a neccessity for us. Will this have to be a clean install again? Or can we upgrade? I'm not sure we can take another clean sweep. Crying or Very sad

I can set up a test server on my new site, just tell me when and i shall set it up.

but lets not let the HitsFan .

Also will this include phpbb 2.0.8?

(one more suggestion) coppermine 1.2.2 (if thats the right version im thinking of)
Also Raven i have found the nuke WYSIWYG 3.20 to work with nuke 7.2, and i like it very much, it can be at [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ] . I can get the file and upload it to my site and give you a linkl if you want.

I find it to be an AWSOME tool, and it DOES NOT alter the database!

I only wish there was a version for the forums.

I responded to GT request on Page 2. I'm really not inclined to add it.

If it is not to late or even if it exists, would it be possible to include a module / addon for admins to display a page for when they need to do some maintenance or other problems they might have Embarassed

Raven,
In the admin area of mambo open source, admins can choose to display a page for visitors to the site to see when they visit; with a customizable message (my site is showing it at the moment) Embarassed Embarassed

Teli from Codewiz has also included the option to do this in his distro in Preferances, web site configuration, sorry to be a pain Embarassed

I am placing this on hold with probable cancellation. Between the Coppermine security breaches (2 more yesterday) as well as nuke exploits, it is becoming a full time job to keep these up to date. I just don't have the time. Add to that the plethora of distributions that are now out there, it's beginning to confuse even me Laughing. In any event, this one is probably dead.

I'm new 2 phpNuke (initially trying PostNuke 1st & unsatisfied; Not new w/ PHP) & w/ friends' recommendations tried your Custom 7.0 Distro... I was pleasantly suprised w/ how things worked. U did an Xcellent job.

We've been preparing other WebSites (I've got 2x on the table myself) 4 converting 2 phpNuke (creating themes, etc.), anticipating your 7.2. The delay was a 'ok, we can wait'. But I have 2 echo the "NOOOOOooooooooooo............oooooo."

Moral of the Story:
I C the time & effort U really do put in2 this & completely understand Y U feel as U do. Just felt like I should drop a line & say that there's a lot of peeps who U Rn't directly aware of that really appreciate your involvement!!!!

Have a GOOD day 2morrow Wink
