Ok well im putting togather a little module for my site and I want to use MySQL to help with the storing of information of for instance how many points someone has and things of that nature. But before I can do that I need more information on the area of PHP scripts interfacing with the DB. I need to know things like syntax for the SQL query in PHP. So far by poking around in existing scripts and I now know how the gather information from the database and display it but thats about it. Does anyone know of any places where I could read up on this information or anyone interested in making a nice long post describing more about SQL queries within a php script? Any information would be most helpful!

Thanks,

Aside from the reference Hitwalker gave you, you can also look in:

http://www.karakas-online.de/EN-Book/

This is a major effort to document PHPnuke and it does cover database access. Chapter 28.5 addresses the issues you raised.

With specific reference to your question, just be aware that there is a data base abstraction layer in Nuke. You can find the files that implement this in the /db directory. The immediate implication of this is that the syntax you will find for accessing MYSQL thru PHP is mediated thru this layer. In other words you can't (or shouldn't) just use the MYSQL syntax you find in the PHP manual but rather use the abstraction layer commands. I know that sounds ... errr ... well ... abstract, but what it means is that if you properly implement it you could change from say MYSQL to Postgres or another database and not have to change a line of code. Theoretically at least. But read Karakas and you shall be rewarded Smile
