There is a setting $UseCodeHighligher in:

includes/addons/head-abbcbox.php

which defaults to false. undoing your change above and setting it to true should get you going.

Not familiar with it but it looks nice. In general terms though, if it's easier for humans it's likely easier for bots as well.
