Well, it looks like Starbucks (or rather Tmobile)'s wireless service was the issue. The upload via my home satellite connection finished just fine. Must be something in their firewall, etc. setup.

SOme more troubleshooting info. I have uploaded to two different php hosting companies using two different ftp transfer programs - no joy.

This is really odd, but I've unzipped the nuke 7.7 patched to 3.0b on my local machine, edited config.php and now am trying to upload the directory structure to a folder on my host.
