In the beginning was XP and XP begat XP SP1. And things were mostly working. Then, XP SP1 begat XP SP2 and my life became hell.
Having had enough, this morning at 7:00 am I decide to follow Microsoft's 3 step easy unistall
Run appwiz.cpl
Select show updates
Click remove
Live happily ever after
7 hours later, at least 12-15 reboots, scouring the Inernet for how to work around the BSOD, how to trick the installer into letting me do things, on and on, I am now back to XP SP1 and never to return to XP SP2 until they get it really fixed.
And before you say it, I have to have XP to be compatible with my employer. I hate Microsoft.

Re: Have I Told You How Much I Hate Microsoft? (Score: 1) | ![]() | I can sympathize with your distress over XP SP2. I have found that it runs better as a fresh install rather than an upgrade. The first time I updated to SP2, I had nothing but problems. After that, I reformatted my drive, loaded XP SP1, then SP2 and everything was fine. I still stay away from IE though. Unfortunately, no matter how much ANY OF US hate MS, we are stuck with them. I do find it aweful funny that the main thing SP2 did was add more security measures to XP. MS should have expected that SP2 would cause headaches. Especially for someone who installs it and has a virus or adware or other junk on their PC. |

Granted the firewall is a childs toy attempt at protection, but there are a number of other interesting changes under the hood which do make some difference. |

But like some couldnt believe it was realy true...it went perfectly. No errors,no dropping out of the internet,or bad behaviour of programms....nothing. Trust me, my computer was/is in no way messed up. Just a brief tour of google will yield thousands of people that have had problems. Even MS admits that you're best off with a clean install. Regardless, there are countless fixes out there and I became a victim. After 1 install, 1 uninstall, 3 repairs, I have my lean, mean machine back. I did it the old fashioned way. Back doors, DOS tricks, and tenacity. I even resolved an issue that many people were having and neither MS nor other MS help desks had been able to solve. On the other hand, my wife's computer is running very smoothly with SP2. |
