Re: What do you expect from future PHPNuke version - add your ideas now! (Score: 1) | ![]() | With all due respect...the survey , like most surveys, asks the wrong questions. "New features" "New modules" "More organization" Well thats what every release has...from the end user piont of view it doesnt mean they are the right ones..the fact that most end users need to add to/disable most of what is there, then get in a mess illusrates this. At the end of the day, a product has to fit the customer, not the customer fit the product. The same goes for a successful site from the webmasters piont of view. As a end user of 12 months what I would like to see is 1/A finished project, patched and reasonable secure...not released then have to patch later, its a pain in the butt. 2/A lite and full version.A google search of nuke sites, one can see what ppl wish to use for complex and simple site. Some suggestions for lite..Approve membership, ip tracker, Sental, simple and better site search block (forum), better translator, (google?) as can be seen www.kakariki.net. world time with dls. better user info, better link exchange, Take out mail, encycopedia, adverts and a few others. Full version include gallery, adverts etc 3/Themes are a pain in the but for new users adding some custom modules...a readme to mod default themes wiith notes in files explaining what changes what, and forums/gallery with matching default theme. Bottom line, a project like nuke has to be organised cooperation before release. I believe to take nuke to the next level, base coders should beary the hatchet and start listening to each other, cooperating, listening to end users, and do some serious looking at forums, sites and SEE what ppl are having problems with/using/ not using. Not running stupid suveys that ask questions that previous versions had anyway...look at the survey questions, is there any single item in there that one cant say yes to..that is why "All the above" gets 25% of the vote. |
Re: What do you expect from future PHPNuke version - add your ideas now! (Score: 1) | ![]() | Kind of hard to share your ideas when forums and comments are disabled. Further, considering that the author has yet to fix any of the serious problems that exist in versions 7.7 through 7.9 that fact leads me to believe that even if these things were enabled, comments and "ideas" would do little good given the minimal efforts by the author. I find it counterproductive to point anyone to phpnuke.org given that the only thing there is advertising. |
Re: What do you expect from future PHPNuke version - add your ideas now! (Score: 1) | ![]() | Yeah, and really what is the point. It is just incomprehensible to me that the author doesn't even include the patches that Chatserv and others so painstakingly put together and that ALL of the community could benefit from! PHP-Nuke is GPL, therefore, EVERYTHING that requires it to run (i.e., more than 50% of the functionality wouldn't be possible without running under its structure) must also be GPL. Therefore, there is NOTHING keeping him from including the entire patched code into future releases. I won't even venture to speculate on his motives / reasonings... Why the h___ do we keep supporting this guy? He doesn't give a d___ about any of us. Sorry.... had a weak moment! |
