RNYA as a stand alone module - possible?

Is there anyway this module can be installed as a stand-alone, without having the 2.3 or 2.3.1 distro?
I.e a sperate download for the module. As i would like to use it, but again it asks for me to run the rnya.php which of course is no where to be seen.

This is not available for individual download and probably won't be.

Trunks, you're an RN fan / user and supporter, but you want to use RNYA without RN? I'm not sure why - it would probably be easier to upgrade to RN than to try to make RNYA work with another installation (and definitely impossible to support).

Spiritwulf, I am willing to look at your installation if you would like to PM admin access and FTP access to your site.

i run RN but just not the latest version, due to the fact that my website is far to heavily modified. I personally think that RN should allow its users access to download the individual mods created by the team here. But maybe im im on my own on that one, would have been nice to be able to use it....

There are just to many changes. Your_Account is really the heart of the product in my opinion and its not really a module that you can just add and remove like a regular module.

trunks, we couldn't possibly support that type of set up. We're swamped as it is. Most modules you can just pluck out of the distribution and drop them into another nuke. My recommendation?

Install a local copy of RN2.3.1 and use MySQLDiff against your nuke installation compared to RN2.3.1 and pay special attention to the nuke_users_* tables (around there). With a little bit of work and a local test system, you might just get this working just fine.

RNYA is much more than a mod we created for RN. From the beginning RNYA was meant to be a core part of the RN core - not an addon. It was never meant to be a stand alone application as far as RN is concerned. The RN version has pulled together several functions, both user and admin, into one place. And, I expect it to get even more powerful as time goes by. It's more than a core module. As far as RN is concerned it is a core function/process as well as a core module. We are building other processes around it.

I don't know what version of RN you are using but you can always add it yourself. In place of the rnya.php file, look in the rn_core.sql to see the sql that is used to create the tables and/or modify other tables. Then drop the modules/Your_Account folder into your modules folder (you will need to rename your current Your_Account folder) and just work the kinks out.

I ran CNBYA 4.4.1 with a RN 2.20 site. The best I remember, it installed easily and didn't give any problems.

RNYA was built on CNBYA 4.4.2, though the upgrade is a little tricky, it isn't impossible.

I'd rather focus on other things right now, but maybe we can consider some of trunk's customizations for future inclusion?

Meanwhile, we should split this into a separate thread, as it's strayed far from the original topic...

Thanks montego & raven for your informative posts.
Its great to see the rn distro becoming greater and greater, i guess im just stumped at the fact i can't upgrade as i want to because of my modifications.
But i'll give that a go and i'll be sure to let you know should i get the YA module to work.

We're not saying you can't upgrade. You absolutely can. But, it is just the nature of "modifications". If you modify the core code, it makes upgrades more difficult. Just a fact of life we all live in as web masters. However, I sure hope everyone stays as current as possible with RN as we continue to find holes - sometimes serious security ones - that folks should be patching, and we don't have the resources to support older releases...

I may throw up a current version and try to transfer the information over piece by piece and see how that goes... problem is, by the time ive transfered everything.. you will probably release another... and probably have more content added to my site hahaha Rolling Eyes

Completely understand. But, if you're not going to write your own system from scratch, this is our world... Good luck.

A suggestion though to make your upgrade go even smoother. Use XAMPP on your local PC with a copy of your site. What you want to do is still run the INSTALLATION/rndb_upgrade.php script on your current database (a copy of course) to get the database schema to match the 2.3.x one. Then it should make transferring the data over a much easier task.

It is doubtful that you will lose any data by running the upgrade script. It is more likely you'll have a toucher time getting your scripts to match the new data schema.

Just a couple of quick notes after reading this. First, RNYA incorporates hundreds if not thousands of individual "fixes" to CNBYA. Unless you go with RNYA, you are losing these. Many are "minor" -- undefined variables being the most common but cumulatively the fixes are very significant and plug a number of security holes.

Second, to reconcile different versions you can use a file comparison tool. I use Beyond Compare with great results. It can even compare a local distribution (on your PC) with a distribution on your server and allow you to preserve your customizations while still getting the advantage of the larger update.
