I tried to use linkmetro link exchange service. I can't exchange links however, since it's soft does not recognize it when I place a link on my site.

I talked to their tech support, and they told me their bot is getting the following response from my site:

You have attempted to access this site with an invalid User Agent
If you think this is a mistake you can contact the site webmaster
Be SURE to include the following information in any email
User Agent: none
Remote Address: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
Client IP: none
Forwarded For: none

Now I recall I had problems submitting to some reciprocal link directories, too...

I strongly suspect it's related to sentinel. I would appreciate it a lot if someone can enlighten me on how to fix that.

Thanks, Misha

Misha

It sounds like their bot may not be sending a useragent string.

The following post should hopefully help; [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

Thanks a bunch, Jakes.

This solves it. I understand I'm now open to the DOS attck, but I'm willing to give it a try. At the same time, I'll try to convince the guys to use non-empty user agent for their bot.

It's worth asking them the question, I can't see why they would not use a useragent string, but there may be a good reason. :s

I asked already. Right after posting a reply here. Waiting for an answer Smile I tried to explain to them that they are fencing off a big chunck of customers this way. I'll see how reasonable they are, and if they fail to fix this without viable explanation, I'll just drop them.

And as I noticed, I had quite a few of reciprocal link directories that failed to recognize my link back. I think for the same reason...
