Confused Newb

Ok its going to be very apparent that I am new to the whole php-Nuke concept. Please bear with me. I have my own website and I am running Nco Nuke 7.6 patched 3.1. I am really confused about the .htaccess file and .staccess. i am on an appache server and I have http auth selected. The site has been tampered with three times now. One was recorded to the .htaccess file. The other two were not. Which file do I use .htaccess or .staccess. that file is blank btw. Also the whole banning of a country how is that accomplished Im inclined to just ban everyone and let them move on to the next newbie who is lost somewhere in the php-world. I have 1p2country as a choice in my sentinel admin but how do you import the data.. My sentinel version is 2.4.2pl4. I have tried to keep things as current as i can. I need help. Thanks

Ok after reading for several hours I was able to find the information That I needed sorry to have taken up space here. Lol Just trying to be as safe as I possibley can..

Just one recommendation is to do a search here on the site for specific problems before posting. Lots of times you will find several posts already made and hopefully the answer you need.... Cool
