I use flashchat. It can be integrated with nuke to use your users table and be restricted for everyone, members only or subscribed users.
[ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

It cost $5, but I personally recommend it.

I 2nd that, FlashChat is a nice add-on. In free solutions, have a look at SPChat and 4nChat.

I had SPChat and after many hacks, even with Sentinel installed I disabled it. After the site was patched to 2.8 I enabled it and gave it a shot, my members loved it. Hacked again, and again, and again. I ended up removing it completely from the site and disabling my guest book because there were attempts to upload images from there (I see someone has posted on that also here in the forums).
Anyhoo, while I liked the way that SPChat functioned and gave me a little banner space next to the client, it ended up just being too much trouble for me.
My answer would not suit everyone, but I ended up remote hosting copy of BlaB! and I-Framing it as a module. So far things are working fine for me. Members have to register for chat separately, but no one is complaining. It may not have all the bells and whistles that SPChat did, but it gives me the feature I need, and by putting it on another server, I figure I am just putting one more barrier between me and the 'people' who find so much joy in causing problems on my site.
I should add that the one thing I do really miss is the block that came with SPChat allowing members to see if anyone was online in chat.

Good luck. They got me so many times my host asked me to remove the script.
