Hey guys,

I've been having an issue the last few days. http://heroexperience.com has been using ravennuke for quite some time and just 2 days ago the security captcha for some reason disappeared rendering it impossible to even log in anymore. The website install was a little old and needed to be updated anyway so we implemented a new install just a few minutes ago, but even the new install bares the same result - captcha.php quite literally seems like it can't be found, although it's there.

I've got a sneaking suspicion it might be a security/accessibility thing, but why all of a sudden? Any wisdom regarding the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Stainless

You could always go into config.php and turn the captcha off until you find a fix.

I do plan to do so for the time being, thanks.

First thing to do would be contact your hosting provider to see if they have made any changes to the server or moved your account to a different server (yes they can move it without you even knowing).
While your twiddling your thumbs waiting for a reply, make sure you have the font files in /includes/fonts

After that, I think we'll need a better description of the nature of the error

I would also say it was/is a configuration issue with your host.

Your captcha class file and the gfx file are both on the server as are your fonts (I just checked Smile )
I would have to agree with Palbin that this is looking more like a server configuration problem.

Maybe if you turn on error reporting in your config.php file we can see if there is anything else we can do.

Hmm, actually, something isn't right with your DNS. Part of the site is being forwarded to another IP using a CNAME [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

The site cannot decide if it should be using just [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ] domain.com or [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]www.yourdomain.com - this will cause the CAPTCHA to fail and quite possibly some of the built in security measures might be preventing you from submitting some of the user input forms.

There is also definitely some server config issues. This url should be impossible [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

Thanks for all the replies guys, they've been rather helpful. The fonts, captcha class file and gfx file are most certainly on there, it's driven me crazy knowing so - thank you to those of you who double checked.

Although I'm wary about enabling error reporting when live, it is enabled at the moment.

Next step, getting after support about the DNS and dangerous server config issue.

I'll report back when I gather any further information.

Thanks again,
Stainless
