PHP-Nuke 7.633
No changes of the system in a long time.
Email has been OK for more than 5 years

On friday when I was sending the newsletter with HTML-Newsletter the sending of the newsletter failed suddenly (see error message below). At the same time the notification emails from forum stopped and in certain threads people got error message about notification email failed when posting (see message below).

I have been in contact with the webhost and changed the configuration to sending through SMTP. This made the notification mail to function again, but not newsletter, feedback, Sentinel emails.

Is it so that SMTP setting is only functioning for phpBB2 parts and not the rest of PHP-Nuke?

My impression is that the webhost is denying at present PHPmail and only allowing SMTP or can something sudddenly stop PHPmail from functioning?

Error message HTML-Newsletter:

ERROR IN MODULE: HTML_Newsletter

ERROR MSG: PHP mail function failed - was unable to send newsletter to: [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

Error message when posting in forum:

Failed sending email :: PHP ::

DEBUG MODE

Line : 277
File : /includes/emailer.php

After reading your note several times, it seems like you have diagnosed the problem in that one sentence I quoted. You need to go into mail configuration in the ACP and set up your mailing to use SMTP. You might want to get on your host's case too about why they disabled the PHP mail function.

There is information in the RNwiki about configuring the RN mailer (from Montego) as well as links back to documentation on Montego's sites and elsewhere. I don't know how well it plays with PHPnuke 7.6.3.

Thank you very much! So Tegonuke Mailer does make it possible to globally send on SMTP for PHP-Nuke? Newsletter, feedback etc will work?

The problem is fixed by the webhost. Yesterday evening I tried a simple PHP mail script and it did not work either, suggesting a problem with phpmail on the site and not PHP-Nuke. Mentioned it to the support and then they rapidly fixed the problem. I found the script here: [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

Just to close the loop on your question: that is correct. One has to configure the TegoNuke(tm) Mailer to use SMTP and then also the forums for SMTP and then you are all set.

The latest Mailer (not in RN yet, but on my site) is also using an even more advanced/enhanced version of the Swift Mailer library which helps even more to ensure RFC compliant emails plus other features to help with things like bounced mails... Wink
