I started the Netscape UFAQ a long time ago using Nuke 6.5 and the Sections Module was the ideal place to list the hundreds of FAQS on the site. When RN 2 was released, the Sections Module was not included. However, I got it installed and works just fine. With the release of RN 2.3 this no longer works. "Sections" is an integral part of the site and cannot be eliminated.

I am not against using a module that is similar or even able to get the Sections Module to work in RN 2.3.

Any suggestions welcome.

The section module was removed from Standard Nuke long time ago.I never used it in 6.5 because of the known security risks.
You could use the content plus module instead.Its in the addon folder of RavenNuke.
Btw: What happend with your copyright ?

I looked at the Content Module but I think it would be way too much work to categroize and include the same FAQS, etc. Copyright got wiped when the old footer.php carried over. I'll have to get it back in there somehow.

You mention "Content Plus", is that different than just "Content" ?

Thanks

its not only a great enhancement of the old content module. Admin + user can add content. Try it out.

And while you are working to get the copyrigth in your footer back I would also use an other theme. We donĀ“t support this theme anymore. It was removed from the 2.30 RavenNuke pack because of different bugs.

Yes I know about non-support for Odyssey but it has to stay put for now. It works and I am not about to stick my fingers in the works. RN 2.20 is working just fine. I am playing around with 2.3 on a throw-away domain at the moment but it looks like upgrading the UFAQ to 2.3 is out of the question at the moment. I took a look at the content module included in 2.3 but migrating from the present "Sections" module doesn't seem possible and I won't live long enough to do it all over again manually ... Sad

The copyright is back in again ... I think it's correct. If not then please tell me how. Thanks.

It might be worth having a look at older phpNuke versions to see if FB included a sql migration path from Sections to Content. He probably didnt but may be worth a shot. As far as I can remember Content was an enhanced version of Section and as Susann mentioned, it did have it's issues. Rather than fix it, FB just dropped it but it was so long ago I cannot remember which version the change happened - possibly 6.9 or there abouts.

Looking at both the tables required for each module, it should be possible to convert.

Could the reason it is no longer working is because of $dbi that has been discussed here in the forums?

I just checked some of my older *nuke files and yes, the old Section module does use the old $dbi database abstraction layer.

I have resigned to the fact that Sections will not work as intended. With that in mind I am probably going to use the F.A.Q. module as that is about as close to the previous sections that I was using. I'll just have to manually copy over the FAQS. I noticed that when copy/pasting the FAQ text that FCKeditor will retain the format and THAT is quite nice to say the least. Good work KGuske !! Smile

Cheers

It will probably take a bit of time to transfer all the information across, but in the long term it is probably the right thing to do. Very Happy

dad7732, just don't lose sight of what Guardian said above as there are several threads which discuss how to fix the $dbi issue. It can be as easy as uncommenting two lines of code in mainfile.php - Wink - or fixing it right and changing the code from $dbi to $db. It is not that difficult to do, especially with the many examples given already in the RN forums here. Just a thought...

I have 2.3 running quite well. The problem is on the production site, Sections contains all the FAQ data and since it is not advisable to maintain that module, I see no way to transfer this data to another module. What I will probably do is to do it manually faq by faq. Not difficult, just time consuming. The "users" DB is no problem.

Ok, but I was throwing you a potential "bone" to get Sections working on 2.3 so that you wouldn't have to go through all that conversion work. Your choice of course, just wanted to make sure you are making an informed decision.

Appreciate the "bone" of course, it's just that with this production site up for 13 years with little to no upgrades that I am wayyy cautious with sticking my fingers in the pie. It was a huge step upgrading from 6.5 to 2.20.10. My main reason for that upgrade was "Sentinel" as "Protector" was long in the tooth and very vulnerable seeing as support dried up.

Cheers, we'll take it step by step and do it manually on the throw-away domain first.

Ok, humor me though for just a second. Since you have already tried the Sections module within a 2.3 environment, open up the mainfile.php in that environment and find these two lines:

Code:

//@require_once(INCLUDE_PATH.'includes/sql_layer.php');
//$dbi = sql_connect($dbhost, $dbuname, $dbpass, $dbname);

Uncomment those two lines, save the file, and then see if Sections will work within the 2.3.0 environment. I am just trying to save you a ton of work unless, of course, you want to migrate to a different module anyways. It just sounded like early on you didn't want to switch, but I would hate for you to not have the latest RN code because it also comes with other "important" fixes. Wink

Too late, I already wiped the test domain and reloaded it wtih 2.3 sans "Sections". I took Susann's advice and loaded the new Content Plus module and I think it's the answer, it's NICE. Manually copying over the FAQS is a bit tedious but at this stage in life I have nothing but time although I still work a 40 hr week but it's Govt work and I'm my own boss ... Smile

Cheers and thanks a bunch. HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!

I am keeping the TEST domain as a production site (netscapechampions.org) and also the UFAQ production site as well but notifying users that they can take advantage of the new interactive Content feature and they can link from one site to the other. The old production site (13 years now) is just too valuable to mess with and as long as Sentinel is kept up to date I don't see any problems as RN 2.20 will be viable for many moons to come, may even outlast me. Smile

Cheers
