PHP-Nuke 7.5 Patched

any eta on a patched distro from this site?

Nuke Patched for 7.5 which will come out as version 2.6 along with the ones for previous versions of Nuke is ready but has been held back because of last minute work being done on several files, if all goes ok it should be out in 1 or 2 days.

I am just a newbie, hence the "newbie" question, but I thought the major point to 7.5 (besides re-orging the admin module) is that the chatserv patches were already applied. Can you please comment on what has not been patched? I held off implementing my portal until 7.5 came out because I wanted all the patches a part of base product.

FB has added the patches since 7.4 but he uses PHP_SELF instead of SCRIPT_NAME and yes, a few old bugs have surfaced so the patch will take care of them.

I've d/l the 7.5 patch but not installed it, how can I tell if my site needs it or not? My site is 7.5 and was a fresh install using Fantastico, I assume the host just put in 7.5 and not upgraded? I did the new install of 7.5 on 02/06/05.

Fantastico will NOT have the patch. You need to apply it.

OK bear with me, don't you install a full copy as a host, not patches? And then Fantastico uses whatever you installed? Also, if I install the patches will that save me from doing all these fixes on my own? Thanks for your speedy reply Raven!

Fantastico is a separate application and installation. If you always want the latest with patches, then d/l it from here and install it Wink

and forget about Fantastico.

OK so then, I need to start over? I've installed 7.5 (the other day), added blocks & modules (didn't know about the patch til afterwards) ... so if I install the patch now that will cause yet more errors I assume ... since I've installed mods/blocks that required changes to some files? Which do you recommend, start over and install 7.5 then the 7.5 patch ... then work on any bugz, then install mods/blocks? Or should I go with what I have now and just install the patch and fix any resulting problems? I must admit PHP sure is confusing and time consuming LOL ... thanks again Raven! I also use your Verse/Proverb blocks ... and your RWIW ... all are working fine, and all ROCK!

Oh and can't forget the themes I've added and the Theme Preview block ... either way sounds like a huge headache.

OK excuse my blondeness ...

How do I install your 7.6 patched? You mean that's the full *newest* version including patches? Are there gonna be any errors on that if I do install it? How do I install it without Fantastico ... it's been well over a year since I last dabbled in PHPnuke and I have so forgotten it all LOL, and even then it was installed via a CPanel. I'd assume I just d/l the 7.6 patched, unzip to somewhere on my HD and then u/l the whole shootin match to a new folder on my site? Will I have yet more errors to fix? Will the mods/themes/blocks I've chosen work with it? Also, I've read you are still on 6.9 so if that's better why wouldn't I use that?

LOL sorry for so many questions but if I'm gonna do this I want to do it *right* ... if there is such a thing LOL ... btw I LOVE your dwagon av ... toooooo cute!

dwagon? - looks more like nemosis to me from the old 2000AD comics.

Just over write your exisiting files and re-apply the modules you have added if you had to edit any files for them.
Better to use a file compare utility but this might over complicate things for you if you are new to nuke.

Be careful to jot down the database connection information in your config.php file on your 7.5 site (that was installed by Fantastico). I would hate to see you trying to figure that information out after you have overwritten it!!!! You will need to set that information back in the new config.php if it was overwritten. Not so easy if you are a newbie...

Fantastico should leave a plain text installation file in the root folder (it uses this for it to uninstal the files and database) so you might be able to grab the information you need from there.

Blue, this should be fairly easy since it's a fresh install. Install isn't even the proper term for Nuke, because nothing actually requires installation!

As was suggested, jot down your DB connection particulars. User, Pass, DB name.

Get fresh copy of Nuke 7.5 or 7.6 from nuke.org
Get a fresh copy of the patched files for 7.5 or 7.6 from here.

Wipe the current Nuke directory in its entirety.

Upload the nuke.org filesystem (if your webspace is configured as a 'www' folder for example, upload everything in the nuke.org archive /html folder to your www folder). The reason for highlighting 'in' is because you want to upload the contents of /html, not the folder itself and the contents. If you do that, then Nuke is now going to run from a sub-folder instead of your webroot. This can cause unnecessary problems for you down the road, especially with certain modules and add-ons!

Upload the patched files, making SURE that your FTP program is configured to overwrite files with the same name(s). The patched files are all original Nuke files that you uploaded in the last step, but these files have the security and bug edits in them. Since the filenames will match, you have to make sure your FTP proggy is properly overwriting the old files... If your FTP proggy has a 'Folder Synchronization' or similar feature, use that! I looove folder sync! Wink

Using phpMyAdmin or whatever MySQL admin panel your host has available, import the nuke.sql file located in the nuke.org archive (/sql folder). This will populate your DB with all default values.

Edit config.php in your webroot, and add the particulars you jotted down way up above. Set a gfx_chk level if you desire (most leave it at the default value of 0 (zero) until they have the site fairly setup). If you have uploaded 7.6 files, in the config.php, you will also have to set the admin.php name. Just make it 'admin'... trust me on this one, it's a useless feature to rename this file...

Ok, connect to your site via [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

You should be prompted to create an Admin by clicking a link. Follow the directions, and YES, you want to create a User with the same name as the Admin! Wink

Once connected to the Admin panel, setup your Preferences in there. Then go to Modules and activate the Forums. The go to Forums Admin and setup your General Configuration. Once it's all configured, install Sentinel and activate HTTP Auth. The rest is up to you... you don't need Fantastico to 'install' Nuke. Installing Nuke is basically just uploading files. It's easy! My approach for this is to unzip both Nuke and the patch locally, copy/paste the patch into Nuke's html folder, edit config.php then upload.

OK, may I ask why not do the Fantastico install *again* then do the patch manually? Just wondering ... hugzzz all

That would be workable too, just make sure you what version gets installed by Fantastico so that you add the correct patch, edit the patch's config.php using the one installed by Fantastico as an example.

Don't forget that Fantastico will not allow you to re-install Nuke again unless you have uninstalled it via Fantastico also.

The latest *stable* release installed at my host is 7.5 for phpnuke. And ya I can just tell Fantastico to uninstall one and install another, or I could install a second one in another directory and use one for testing or backup even. I can install into some five mysqls I think, not sure I'd want to use up the space tho. I can install to my hd for testing but I'm running low on space there also, although I have done it in the past. I can't re-install it no but I can remove the current install and then install it over or I can just install another instance in a new directory/mysql db.

But now the ? is should I go with 7.5 as on my host, or should I go 6.9 for instance? I always thought newer was better but maybe not? I'd want to go the most secure version available if possible. Any advice here?

OK this is getting on my nerves now : o/ I've installed two new instances of phpNuke, both 7.5 Fantastico installs, but on the 1st one I copied all the patches over the originals ... disaster; 2nd one I just copied patches files/folders one by one over originals ... disaster. I'm apparently not good at this. Is there a patched version w/languages already completed all I do is install the whole thing and it works as is? BTW, I have since uninstalled both of the new installs, I still have my original with *errors* in the mod sections and the one *no email hack* problem. I can PM you the website url if you want to see that. Crying or Very sad
