The 7.0 release on this site is the Final from the author w/o the updates. I will be releasing my customized one soon with all the updates. You can d/l it and apply Chatserv's pacthes and you will have the latest updates.

thanks raven, this site is great!

i should state that i am new to phpnuke.

some questions:

1 - is it safe to assume that most of the addon modules (6.5 and beyond) will work with 7.0. im tossing up between installing 6.5 or 7 .i guess its a compromise between security and compatibility.

2- also i am using MYSQL CC and i set uname and passwords on my db's. if i put the password in config.ph...i get errors, if i omit it it works fine...
havent test this on a active server, just local host

3- am i allowed to modify the topics/news modules considerably (basically add functions to it and changes some functionality) ? . if i do this do i still have to keep the copyright notice to fb. same goes if i make my own modules that adopt code...is this allowed?

sorry for the noobe questions, but i find some things hard to understand.
cheers

Welcome to our community!

#1 - No, unfortunately. There have been many changes since 6.5. You have to try them and some will and some won't. 6.9 is the probably the most stable right now. The 7.0 I will be releasing shortly, or the 7.0 plus Chat's fixes, is a very good candidate though.

#2 - MYSQL CC? I don't know that one. In any event, w/o a password you are VERY insecure. You need to assign a separate user for that database and a password.

#3 - Modify away. The copyright notice does not have to be shown in the footer, regardless of what you read in his docs. However, it is a courtesy. The comment section in the addons should be there for recognition of contributors. You do have to leave the copyright notices in other people's work, in the code itself, according to the GPL.

cool. in regards to #3

fb states that any new module created that uses any phpnuke code should make reference to him and apply for a gpl license?

say i make a news module called omninews which uses 30% original code..should i keep the comment section (pop up) notice that says copyright fb. or would i be safe in omiting it. I assume the only time i would have to publicly copyright my own module is if i am distributing it?

okay thats my last question.. i wont take up any more time. ps thanks for your quick response. im in australia, aint it late there?

22:32 hours

FB says alot of things to bloat his ego Laughing

If you are using anyone's code to any degree then give them credit. The copyright issue will get you many opinions. If you release your code in a distribution, like nuke, then it automatically becomes GPL. However, if you release it as an addon to a GPL package (like nuke), then you can make it whatever license you want.

Now, I am not a lawyer but this is my, as well as many others, interpretation/understanding. Just give as much credit as is needed. 30% of a 10 line script is 3 lines. However, 30% of a 100 line script is 30 lines. If you're using that much original code then you should be giving credit.

Jusy my opinion.

My 6.9, from here, has ALL the fixes already applied. It's just the 7.0 that you need to apply the fixes to. Mine (7.0) should be out either this weekend or early next week.
