Yes I have installed the latest patched 7.9 and installed sentinel and a few other mods but even before them the index page is opening real slow, like a 27 second load time for me and I have dsl but the funny thing all the other pages load super fast, just the index is a problem. Either just going to the site or jumping modules back to the homepage its real slow. I compared the mainfile with that of the first patched 7.9 and there was about 20-30 more so lines on this one. Im not much on code, just searching and editing. Is there anyway I can fix this any of you know of? I posted here cause I see chatserv who has made the patches is a usual poster here and I hope someone can be of assistance to me.
On another note Ive heard so much bad stuff about 7.9 so I plan on just activating the WYSIWYG editor long enough to edit what I want to and then disabling it, Its not that big a deal unless it has to be on for the edited texy to show as you edited it. But even if I leave it on, its patched + sentinel 2.42 and I have admin ip lock on my your_account admin, forum admin-pagestart, and admin.php so I really dont see how it can be so easily hacked. ANyway, I appreciate if someone can help me on this index thing. I am able to do any editing it may require.

The reason for bad performance is that you are making a huge amount of SQL queries by employing really bad blocks that simply consume resources.

Those include the who is online block (you already have that information in your login block), the shoutblock (a real nasty resource hog with a non-compliant marquee function that sucks browsers dry), the non-compliant center supporters block with the same marquee problem.

Dump those three blocks and see what happens.

If you want to measure it, do them one at a time starting with the shoutblock.

Remember, with marquees, the entire page must be generated before it can be displayed and on top of that, browsers must engage the marquee functions AFTER that data has been generated, so in a nuthsell, whenever you use them, it takes twice as long for the page to load.

I would also suggest considering another theme. That puppy has quite a few errors and big images. To compare what I mean, use the DeepBlue theme and see just how much faster your domain is.

Finally, I can only comment that using 7.9 is like handing hackers a loaded gun that is pointed at your domain. With or without the WYSIWYG editor enabled, it makes no difference, the security holes are still there. Just a heads-up that you might want to heed the warnings of everyone in the Nuke development World by avoiding versions after 7.6 like the plague that they are.

Hope this helps!
Steph

thanks a lot, that did help. Yeah I think I might stick with 7.6. I was just trying to go as modern as I could but they must have really messed up 7.9. Thanks again!
