Admin glitch

I installed a fresh copy of 6.9 and setup the database and that went perfect. However, when i setup a super user, i try to get into Preferences, it boots me back to the Admin login screen. What did i do wrong?

Review your error logs to see if there's anything there. Also, verify your mysql configuration settings. That's usually the issue. The dbuser and dbname are not linked (permissions) or are incorrect.

I double checked the database using analyze.php and all seems ok. no errors shown. Which directories/files need to be chmod?

Analyze does not verify the username/password permission credentials. This has all the indications that permissions in MySQL are not set correctly. If you used cPanel to create the database and database user, did you then connect the user with the database to allow that dbuser to have access to that database?

What is did was:

1. setup a fresh database

2. ftp all files into:

Only registered users can see links on this board!
Get registered or login to the forums!

3. set me up as "super user"

Then what happens is it boots be back to the admin login screen. i can't setup configuration or anything

But, when you set up a fresh database you also have to assign a database user who can access that database. If you use cPanel, for example, you either use and existing user or you create a new user. Then, you have to link that user to the database to tell MySQL that he has permisiion to use the database. This has nothing at all to do with Nuke at this point. It is all in MySQL to this point. Then you put that information in your nuke config.php file.

I am using PhpMyAdmin to setup the database. Im still getting kicked back to the login screen. I went as far as to contact my hosting company that tested my settings for the database and it was ok. I thought maybe a corrupted database table so i deleted the tables and reinstalled them. Same prob.

When I look at your Plesk database setup, I only see 1 user for that database and it is not the same username you are using in your config.php. Did you use Plesk to add another username to the database?

That's what I was trying to tell you in all my ramblings. When the admin panel goes blank like that it's 99.999% of the time because nuke can't login and retrieve the configuration/author table settings. That means either the settings are wrong in config.php or MySQL isn't configured correctly Smile

what i'll do, once this is fixed, is write everything down (database settings and config.php settings) In case i have to reload it the future

My first webhost used Plesk 2.5. That extra step, connecting user to the database, wasn't required. My second host used CPanel. I spent three excruitiating days trying to get a nuke up, then blamed the webhost and moved on to some other host, again with CPanel. But this third one had great support forums and within minutes I had this issue sussed ... doh! Such a little thing, eh? But that fancy host *without* the support forums was clueless to my db connection problem.

the "most excellent" Raven suggested that the browser's "cookies" may be conflicting. They were! I deleted both the cookies as well as i cleared my browsers history. All is well. thanks to everyone!
