I am using the Site Info Block (latest version)

This is what is happening:

1 time I refresh, I get it working fine, next time I refresh, it is whacko:

Correct

Wrong

This is the only block that does this. It does it on both sides (left and right).

That is not the block Smile. It is a browser time out issue with your server. The graphics or database collection is taking too long and the browser and/or your server is timimg out before the entire screen can be loaded. Depending on server load, internet traffic, how graphic intensive your site is, etc., this may happen. Once the graphics are cached you shouldn't see it.

Fair enough,

but why is this block the only one that does it? I have used the the site info block from NukeCops.com and it works fine. I like yours alot better, so I was hoping to be able to use it.

I am doing a little more work in mine than they are in theirs. Do you experience the problem on my site? I am using the same block. As I said, it depends on many factors.

1 thing I did notice is the following.

When on the page, if I hit F5 to refresh, and if the block immediately looks incorrect, it will correct itself within 1 second, and be fine from there out. However, sometimes when I hit F5, if the block looks fine initially, it will blow up to 2 times it's size.

It is strange considering when it ends up being incorrectly displayed, it actually starts off looking correct, and visa versa.

No, I do not experience the problem on your site. Please don't get me wrong, I am not saying that there is a bug in the code that you wrote. I am moreso concerned that something on my site might be "conflicting" with its ability to display correctly

By interrupting your browser that is already having timing issues, you will get erratic and inconsistent results.

I am not taking you wrong at all Smile. I experience the same issue on Nuke Cops often, only it's the Donate block at the top and not their Site Info block. It's just a result of many factors.

I FIXED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought maybe it was a graphic problem, so I changed all ".gif" in your code to ".xxx"

Pictures disappeared, but the problem still existed. BUT.. it allowed me to notice that your ALT text for each link was REALLY long...

So I went back through the code, removed all "ALT=text" tags in the ahref links, and BAM... problem fixed.

Looks like it was getting hung up on the alternate text for links before the graphics would load.

Hopefully that will help someone else. I would recommend removing the alt text from your official releases, as it does speed up the loading of the block dramatically.

Interesting. Since you do not experience it on my site, it is more server related than anything, I would guess. To run true metrics you need to examine the page generation time and not the load time. I just ran some quick tests on my server here. With the alt code in, the generation times went from .324 to .351. When I removed the alt code the page generation time went from .318 to .391. It really doesn't affect the generation times at all, nor the load time here, as I would not expect it to, so I would respectfully challenge your assertion that "it does speed up the loading of the block dramatically". Having said that, if it resolves the issue on your site then that's great news!
