I have an awful lot of smilies on my site and note that they're very slow to load. Is there a smilie limit for the forums?
I have about 300 and have another couple of hundred to add on - but it would take forever for the page to load!

You will use up your bandwidth pretty quick with that many smilies.
I used to go to a site that used tons of smilies and I quit going there just because of the time it took for all the smilies to load.
Don't do it! |

Is it best then to put the smilies on another site and just link to them? |

It's so people can express how they feel without being rude to each other... and I love these little smilies...

I guess I would say just try it a few different ways and see what works best.
You can create a smilie pack from your smilies admin. Do that after you get one way set up then try another.
I am not sure how you can link them from another site though. |

I can put them all on another site I have and let people link that way... I'll just give the instructions... |
