Hi!

Is there any specific reason why coppermine was included in the package instead of gallery?

Just curious. Wink

I'll tell ya, I used Gallery before coppermine and copper is so much better. If I remember right Gallery doesn't use the database but just makes writable files on the server. I had to change web servers and had no end of problems trying to get gallery to work on the new server. I couldn't figure out what folder permissions to change with CHMOD. It was a nightmare. Maybe gallery is better now, it has been a few months since I used it.

I ran an informal poll and users preferred CM. I also tried installing both and CM was a much better user experience, even for an old dog like me. Not a referendum on the products, but more on the 'git er done' part ROTFL

I think it still requires safe mode off.

BTW, is there any way I can convert my gallery albums to coppermine?

Yes Gallery requires the safe mode to be "off" and I do agree when attempting to close down a site, I was cleaning up, and had many problems removing files created by Gallery. I still like it tho, and will most likely continue to use it.

I have G2, but until I get my secondary site up and running it will be a bit before I am able to test it. I will post back when all is said and done Razz

In any case, I think it is good to have some form of image gallery (for lack of a better term Wink ) incoporated into a release, while it may not be of your own personal taste, it does give a user the ability to start off with something. I believe photos and images have become a very important part of everyones lives, and the ability to present them online is a very important feature of any website. Way to go Raven w00t

Best regards,

Good post. I will be looking forward to your evaluation of G2 because I may change over to it.

I don't use CPG but have tested everything in it on a friend's site, i still prefer Menalto's Gallery and if i take into consideration the security aspects and how fast the Menalto dev team takes care of bugs i can't find any reason to switch Wink

Well, if G2 uses mysql database and this other guy likes it then I will be changing over as well. CPG has way to many functions IMO. I'm not interested in letting users create their own galleries.
