I have owned a website for nearly two years and have had on-hand help from it's creator whenever we've had technical problems but he is now somewhat out of touch due to a well earned retirement.
It is a support site which at the moment makes no money but provides vital help, support and advice to Lone parents.
It's very busy often with fifty posts in a day plus shout box, chat room etc.
the most recent and pressing problem at the moment is spam, some of it fairly harmless, adverts etc. but some is very hard core porn and extremely offensive.
We have had spates of it in the past but this recent torrent is relentless.
I have changed the option in configuration to admin being required to activate an account but this does not change anything, the site's creator has had a look and cannot see why this facility won't work, hence this post.
Now I would love to reel off a string of details about my site but really am not sure which/what exactly anyone kind enough to offer help would need.
Please be gentle with me, I am a bit clueless about the nitty gritty of websites but am not a complete idiot despite a rumour or two.
Thanks for reading...A

Hi, Sorry only just got the hang of how to view replies, thanks for taking the time.
Is this what you mean by which version?

There is a notice advising me to update but was told not to use the link within the message, I think I was advised to do it through this site, however I was assured it wasn't really necessary to run an update as I have it hosted on a server within a reseller package.
By all means contradict what I've been told, there are no egos here and I am very much in need of any help offered.

OK so that's your version of BBTONUKE, but what about phpNuke itself?

With regards to my other comment, phpNuke doesn't have an option to set to Admin Approval only so just trying to work out what mod you are using to do this?

There is no modification to the script, all a bit out of my depth there, the indications were there to imply I could do it in forum but obviously that's not the case.

Is this the other info you needed?

This is not a Raven Web Hosting (RWH) issue. I am moving it to an appropriate forum Smile

I have not had a single spam in the forum in two years, since I installed bbantispam or Advanced Textual Information. Easy to install and use. If you have PHP-Nuke it is best to put the installation code in config.php.

OK it sounds like you have a bit of house keeping to do as well? Wink

NukeSentinel should really be upgraded to the latest version and if you want to approve members you will need to install the Approve Membership mod, which can be downloaded from here:

Yes absolutely, housekeeping required.
I am hoping this is the beginning of me becoming completely independent regarding such chores and problem solving with a little help from this site rather than feeling a bit lost, thanks for your replies, I'll get started asap.

We usually recommend installing XAMPP on your computer and doing a test install/upgrade first. Wink

Where can I find XAMPP? I dare say the answer is on the forums somewhere, I think I'll have a proper nose round here before I do anything, thus avoiding bothering you guys with so many questions, I really do appreciate you taking the time to answer.

Well the chance didn't arise over the weekend, I hope to get all I need done this week or next as the spamming has gone up another gear.
Where is the best place to obtain updates for nuke and phpbb, sorry if this is a dumb question but I was advised not to update from the links in admin.

Thanks Jake for the xampp link.

Thanks Slackervaara, I've installed the bbantispam and it works a treat, having second thoughts about the updating though as I cannot seem to find an update for my version.
