Hey Ive had many problems in the past with avatars and them not working, I was wondering just how to simpily disable or turn them off, i really dont want or need them for my site, im getting tired of the old X thats there in place of it, Ive tried various fixes for in, including several on this site but nothing works, how can I just simply get rid of it?

In the forum? That should disable for forum.
If not, you can open viewtopic_body.tpl and find
Code:
{postrow.POSTER_AVATAR}

Remove that, then no avatar will show in topic view.

Removing the line I said above will totally remove all avatar images in topic view. Whats the url to your board?

Just to recap, open viewtopic_body.tpl in a text editor remove this: {postrow.POSTER_AVATAR}
save and upload.

This will work, theres no doubt about it. I should said before but maybe the theme you are using for your nuke site is using a custom phpbb theme. In which case viewtopic_body.tpl might be located in:
themes\YOUR_THEME\forums
and not:
modules\Forums\templates\YOUR_THEME\
