The easiest thing to do is to just work through it yourself and learn . Find all instances of the word 'topic' and start removing, having made a backup first.
I sussed it in the end. I'd missed a table tag which was closely integrated with the search bit. Removing both search and topic made it dead easy
I can see that it basically just prints an html string, part of which is an sql query - in laymans language
Presumably DOT at the line start means concentate (join) in PHP speak then?
I will have to learn PHP then. I can do basic, ASP, javascript & lingo.
I've just been trying to avoid yet another syntax.
Maybe I'll do a tutorial on what I did.
I think non coders should be able to do this more easily, especially when it's a design issue like this.

The entire theme [lack of] methodology in nuke leaves everything to be desired. Since there are so many ways to do things, there is no standard, and that perpetuates the confusion and high learning curve.
