What does everyone do to make their images 'web optimized'.

I've been playing around with it and I'm not too keen on the quality. But I just might be nit-picky about it and will anyone even notice?

I've been using the Q-50 method along with resizing. I can shave another 30% off a file if I Q-50 it on top if resizing it.

But I have image editing noob written all over me so I could be doing this totally wrong. I'm using both Photoshop and PhotoImpact and they both do the same.

What do you all do?
