Mint is really refined and polished. That said one of the main reasons I never used it is that I needed a dialer gppp or kppp to get online. With Mint it was in the repositories but not on the install cd. I thought that was short sighted and figured if dial in users were that easily left out who am I to argue?
Mint did make me an ext4 convert though. |

I understand that. But I can't apologize for living in a rural community. If it wasn't for EVDO (for which I also use a dialer) I'd still be dial n waiting. Good news is with the increase in EVDO use there is a renewed interest in fixing all the broken dialers and network connection tools! |

Just goes to show how much we take for granted these days. Even here, in deepest, darkest, post-communist Slovakia, nestled at the base of Europe's second largest mountain range (The High Tatra's; part of the Carpathian Mountain Range) I have excellent internet.
I cannot even begin to imagine using a dial up modem.
Is satellite uplinks still expensive? |

4G wireless is cheaper that satellite now. We got Clear 4G for about $40 US a month with speeds as fast as cable. |

I moved over to openSUSE 11.3 not being afraid of the evil empire it seemed like a pretty safe bet. Wanted to give Fedora 13 a try but suse is working really well for me now.
Kubuntu 10.10 should be nice too but I was happy to leave ureadahead, grub2 and especially plymouth behind for a while. (Regressions not always a bad thing!) |
