Hi guys; I did a quick search, and this may be a bit of a dumb question....

is there a feature list of RN anywhere? Does it come "bundled" with forum software? If so, is it phpbb3?

Is there a list of differences between RN and Nuke 7.6?
Is there a comparison between RN and other CMS, such as Joomla 1.5 and Drupal/ Xoops, etc.?

thanks for the replies;

basically I need to be able to manage groups, plus need:
forums
gallery
limit access to news stories/ content
manage advertisers
plus the "stuff" I'm used to.
Currently using Joomla- the security aspect scares me. The config/ admin aren't "intuitive"
Installing "add ons" is a breeze (via the admin interface)
Lack of "native" items, plus the way you need extra plug ins to "tie it all in"... just looking at options, that is all Wink

I've been looking at phpbb3, but then thought if I'm possibly going to change it, look into RN because the support is fantastic Wink

(lets say support for some of the J! stuff leaves a lot to be desired)

Yes you can set groups up.
Yes there are forums -> phpBB2
The News article and Content module can be set to registered users, or a group.
Advertising System is built in.

Forgot to say there isn't a Gallery built in, but there are various ones available. It all depends on what features you want.

I am currently working on a basic gallery module solely for RN coded from scratch... If I can get a stable working copy of iGallery, chances are it gets included in a future release

In an 'ideal' world it would be perfect to have one CMS which offers all of the things that AndyB requires.
Instead of trying to bridge, embed, re-code etc etc

I don't think you will get a CMS with everything that people want. People have tried it before and the package just ends up being bloated. It is much better to have a modular system with addons that integrate easily.

With regards to gallerys Code Authors has one available that utilises Picasa.

What we really need, IMO, is what JakeC suggests, but in addition to having a solid "plug-in" type system, it would be great if we also had a community policed "marketplace" of solid tested reviewed vetted plug-ins.

I agree with montego... That would eliminate a lot of security holes being introduced by some addons. Nuke has always needed an addon vetting system which would require certain standards to be applied across the board.

I think about 6 months or so ago we opened a forum here for just such a purpose but no one really bothered with submitting any add-ons and of those few that did, they didn't really get much feedback.
I still thinks it's a good idea though but even without such a comunity policed approval system, I think some general guidance would go a long way to help people develop stuff to a decent standard, even if such a 'guide' was pretty basic i.e. stick to W3C standards, ensure all POST forms have a hidden value thats verified to ensure the data has come from the correct form etc etc...

update;
gallery 2- scary. DB intensive, plus managed to sort out all the stuff for Gallery1 to "work" with sentinel (see my posts on this)
Are there any plans to "port" to phpbb3?
Angloswede (Mark) is helping me with this new site. We've decided to "junk" Joomla. Lack of support, lack of security are the main reasons. I'd rather donate here (as in the past, although not much :s )
We're testing now, try to get it all configured as we want, then throw it on the "new" site

Last question: which theme offers best for compatibility with known modules/ is the standard/ w3C ? (So I know which theme to start "modifying" Wink

)

All of the stock themes should be compatible with most modules, in fact it is not really the themes that will give you a problem.

phpBB3 has been talked about many times in the forums, there is a port already for Nuke, but I don't think one for RN has been released. That is not to say the one for Nuke won't work.

I am pretty sure if you searched you would be able to get a download, I think Thoth off this forum runs this on his Ravennuke site

I got permission from the author of Nuke Reflections Gallery to modify it for RavenNuke(tm). I should have a beta release in a few days. It seems to work pretty well.

Most addons will work, but you should really test them on a test site before putting them on a production site. RN originated from 7.6 so that would be the best option in terms of version.

thanks. We've got the site on a server we're testing with; I've found some stuff (through these forums) that we're trying/ evaluating/ testing.

Pity there's no "out of the box" E Commerce solution and photo gallery solution. I've used gallery version 1.x on my main site with no real issues (and in the region of 10k photos)- we've backed them up from that site to migrate to the new one, so I'm thinking of using the same system, unless I find something "more slick" (lightbox/ shadowbox, etc.)

I'm also looking into themes. I'm trying to get away from something that looks like a "typical" nuke based site (ie. "blocky" )

We're testing/ evaluating as much as possible before we move across from Joomla (lack of support and security are the biggest "bug bears" and I know my way around nuke/ sentinel enough to get by (and the mods/ admins know how to use it as well)- although we're not totally ruling Xoops out - as yet- but everything is swaying towards RN. I did spend a few hours reading through the thread started years back with regards a new phpportal project, but notice (for MANY valid rreasons) that it hasn't got to the design stage, as yet.

Just my personal opinion, but I think it would need to become as easy as the Android or iPhone marketplaces and better policed. I just don't see the forums as the route to go. It needs to be built right into the "Admin" of RN and go hand-in-hand with an easy plug-in installation type architecture.

they do something similar over on Joomla (their extensions part)- the problem is to do with "policing" and also, politics. You can't see "potential" mods/ tweaks/ hacks; you can only see them once approved. With the forums, at least you can see these- whether approved or not- and take a look. You can also see how long they have been "waiting" for someone to take a look.

I did go through the forums you had here- was surprised at how "few" entries there are (not surprised by the "lack" of responses as I know time is often more "precious" than anything else) (I hope that came across right; I'm not having a go)
