Well, I finally finished tweaking my first RN website and let's just say I couldn't be happier with it.
I am now ready to move on to my next project and that is developing a website for a small business venture.
The questions I have are how viable is RavenNuke as a small business portal and how secure is the Raven Web Hosting for a business site ?
My first project was just a World of Warcraft guild site on the cheapest web host I could find and I'd like to take what I've learned and keep working with you wonderful folks and this community since everything worked out so great.
The needs of the business site would primarily be to advertise and allow customers to order online services, but also to provide a database of articles that can be searched by keyword. It would also utilize the embedded forums for customer discussions as well as subscription and newsletter services.
So is this something suitable for RN and Raven Web Hosting or am I barking up the wrong tree ?
Any information and advice would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance for your responses.

I was waiting to have others respond because I'm (obviously) going to say it's great! In 6 years we have maintained a 99.8% uptime and our servers have never been breached. Certain sites have been but those sites were using unsafe applications. There are many who host with RWS that run the exact kind of site that you are describing. That's all I'll say for the moment |

I started out using standard phpnuke over 5 years ago which as a standard cms is pretty poor and I lead into a few security problems
The great news is I found this site
I have never really had any issues using Ravennuke in all that time and my site now has over 9,000 members to date Unfortunately I did have one issue where I set permissions wrong but that was my fault
Generally overall its been a great system and out of the cms systems I have used its been far the best
Also I would like to say I am really pleased with the latest release with new SEO additions
Cheers all

heh heh heh... In all the years I have had my site here I have never had one issue that I did not create myself... the latest being banning myself because my systems opened waaaaay too many connections at once.
As usual, the issue was resolved in less than an hour.
Through all this time and all those situations, the support was right there to assist me in getting it fixed.
I put my site in their hands and haven't looked back since...
Keep up all the excellent work! Oh and don't be a stranger
Thank you again for all these years of great service, even though I am probably the only problem you have hehe

There is absolutely no reason why RavenNuke (tm) could not fulfill this need. Depending on how seriously you are getting into e-commerce you may want to consider a domain specific SSL certifcate but thats standard practice really.
I don't use RWH as I have a dedicated server but I do know that Raven spends a lot of time tweaking and reviewing the security measures he has in place, unlike most hosts which are happy to run with a 'default' security setup. |

Greetings All...
I'll shy away from my usual lengthy and obtuse style of prose to reply as follows:
In almost four years of involvement with RWS, This has been the ABSOLUTE most top shelf, rock solid host I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with, within the virtually 20 years of being involved in the web industry.
I could write volumes here - but I promised you I'd be succinct - and there you have it my friends !!!

I've used a myriad of hosting companies since 1997 and RWH is by far the best I've used. As far as security for e-commerce, I have 3 PCI (payment card industry) compliant sites on RWH; which is all the security any merchant processor could ask for.

I can tell you RavenNuke (TM) is power pur it´s secure and stable! I´m running a portal site with 20.000 international users switched from 6.5 to RavenNuke because of all the security issues, the many bugs in standard Nuke and other strange issues.
Also this is one of the best support forums so you are always in good hands.
Good luck with your site ! |

Clan Themes has been based on Raven Nuke ever since it began 3 years ago. We chose RN for our base because it was light weight with plenty of room under the hood. I wouldn't change that for the world today. |

I thought I was pretty well covered security-wise on my support site using "Protector" until my site was hacked pretty bad one day. Thank goodness for DB backups and site backups. Recovered in less than 30 minutes. Then I discovered RN and Sentinel and not one single incident in over three years now. All of my site customers have been migrated over to RN now.
BRAVO !!!!!

Thanks for all the great feedback, I'm sold.
Not that it took much to sell me as I didn't really want to have to go and learn another CMS anyway after the great experience I've already had with RN.
I could almost guess the kind of responses I was going to get when I originally posted my questions, but I just wanted to make sure.
I know I'm new to the game but I can't think if too many instances where your web host also just happens to be the developer of the CMS you are using. Throw in the great support not only from the admins and moderators but the community as well and it all seems almost too good to be true.
I've learned from past experiences that most of the time if it seems too good to be true it probably is, but I feel confident enough that in this case it is the exception and not the rule.
I already have my domain registered so I'm going to get to work on the site. I should probably be ready to subscribe in a week or so.
Thanks again for all the responses. |

I've run sites on a variety of providers and many years ago moved everything to Raven. Must be 5+ years now. The support is immediate, there are never any headaches and there is great value for the cost. I've had to use the backup for a file I deleted and Raven got it immediately. All other issues are answered quickly and with diligence. If you are trying to decide where to place your site then I would only recommend Raven's services.

To me Raven Web Hosting was a great asset to me because i was just learning about the PHP-Nuke CMS and he helped me along every time i had gotten stuck. Database issues, configuring. You name it he had helped me , no questions asked. Never was there a day between replies. He has to be one of the best web hosts around with excellent support and very competitive pricing. You really cannot go wrong. |

I believe that RavenWebHosting is the absolute best on the Internet and, indeed, the reason the Internet was invented- that and RavenNuke. From the beginning I have always found Raven extremely knowledgeable and helpful even when, invariably, a problem was caused by myself, like banning myself from my own site. I've never had a problem with the webhosting itself and the support is great and everything is kept up to date. Even before RavenNuke and NukeSentinel I've never been hacked, not once, thanks to Raven's innovations like the old HackAlert as well as chatserv and others patches of the buggy original PhPNuke. Now that there is RavenNuke and NukeSentinel running a website is that much easier and fun especially in conjunction with RavenWebHosting. |

One thing that I can state with 100% accuracy is that noone has ever left RWS due to servers or services . Longevity is also a characteristic of RWH Clients/Friends.
