Last week when the servers went down, my Google, MSN and Yahoo pagerank went down dramatically. On Google, it went from #3 in search results to #743!! Evil or Very Mad

Anyone have any advice?

It might be something to do with the server actually physically moving location.....

maybe, just a stab in the dark

Doesn't make sense. My server went down last week, and pagerank and search results haven't changed. Not sure if we're on the same server though - how long were you down?

kguske,

hmm...that gives me a little hope. Maybe google tried indexing while the server was down and this is temporary?

No one knows for sure, but I can't believe it would make it zero because the server was unaccessible for a short period, even if it did look at the site while it was down. How long was it down?

While I don't believe this is the case, Google could have blacklisted your site. Can't do much about it until their indexes are back.
Perhaps they've changed their page rank algorithm too

Blarneystone,

I show you are 5/10. What were you before?

Hi all, looks like I spoke too soon. The pagerank came back sometime this morning. Sorry I wasn't patient enough - looks like my site gets indexed about 1 time per 6 days.

I'm back to #3 in the search results.

I have developed a theory... that when a site gets indexed and it's down, Google, etc don't remove it entirely, but instead push the rank to 1000 or so. That way, the spider knows to re-index.

Google and the rest put a down site in cache I think or it's shuffled off to the Wayback Machine lol Anyway 743 would be good for me and it's not a competition, is it?
