Captcha has stopped working cannot log in as administrator

I would really appreciate some assistance with a strange Captcha issue I am having.

I recently noticed that someone on my site left a message saying they could not download a certain file. I tried it myself and noticed that even if you correctly typed the Captcha details it would always respond “You have entered an invalid Passcode” This is the case with all areas on the site that require Captcha authentication including the admin panel.

The only thing I have change recently is I added a Google Ads block which I have since removed but still the problem persists.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

Try deactivating your Site Sponsor block.

Thanks for your quick replys.

nuken - I cannot log in as admin to deactivate the block because of the captcha requirement. So I just FTP'd in and renamed the block.

Palbin - The Captcha displays just fine. It is when you type the code it always says that it is incorrect.

Did you move hosts? I have a feeling that the PHP session configuration or the permissions on the directory where the PHP sessions are to be stored have been changed and so PHP sessions are no longer working. I would check with your host if you are not managing the server/account yourself.

By the way, you might be able to see an error in your error logs about a permission problem (just don't post the detailed path here).

montego - thanks for the advice. The site is hosted by a third party and I am unaware of any changes they might have made. The error log throws up the following regarding Cpatcha:

Any advice would be greatly apprciated.

I am no expert in server setup, but that Read-Only looks like the problem. I'd just send them that, and I am sure they will recognize the problem.

Thank you everyone for your help. Support at my hosting company have fixed the issue thanks to the advice here.

Seems it was a CPanel issue see below:
