We believe the host is responsible for the site to go dead cause the php wasnt working anymore...
Is this somehow related ?

I can't explain it, but it appears to have been encoded on purpose. Could it be that someone wanted to have their own 'encryption' that could be reversed when displayed? Other than that - no idea.

wish it was as simple as that raven but the complete events stuff is like that...
thats just it !

the guys site stoped working 3 days ago...and i found out that the php wasnt working anymore..
the hosting company tried to denie it but after giving some proof they said something was wrong with the server... Embarassed

but it was impossible to get the site running again cause the db got corrupted....how is a mistery but i think that the .....hexadecimal stuff is a part of the answer...

does this story help in any way to come to a conclusion about the how ?

Starting with phpMyAdmin 2.6.0-pl2, when you request an export of some kind, the options under data now includes a checkbox that says "Use hexadecimal for binary fields", and is checked by default. You need to uncheck that to make a normal export that we are all used to seeing...

I haven't played with it (other than to uncheck it each time Wink ) but surely there is a way to restore the data... I'm afraid I just don't have the time to fool with it for you, but you might get some answers at Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login!

Well, this is getting confusing... you say the hosting co's php died, so who did the backup, how, and using what version of phpMyAdmin (or did they use mysqldump...?)..? And if you're using a different older version of phpMyAdmin to restore it, then it makes sense that you don't see the new data options.. but they are there in 2.6.0-pl2

But then again, how and why are kinda irrelevant.. what you want is to restore it. What I was basically telling you is that the latest release of phpMyAdmin allows you to do this exact thing -on purpose-. So, therefore, there must be a way to restore it (and probably quite easily). I mean, you could write a script or use a utility to convert it back, then add it back to the DB, but based on the fact that you can intentionally do this, there must be an easy way to restore. If you're lucky and someone here knows how this works, fine, but in the meantime, you might ask/search around phpmyadmin.net and find the answer rather quickly...

well like the story starts with...im helping someones dead site...

ok for some it may seem not relevant...but if it was you this happend to you probebly wanted to know who's the guilty party in this.

and i just checked again ...
the host offers him phpmyadmin version 2.5.6-rc1
(my host has 2.6.0-pl2)

so yes his version is a lot older...

My bad, I apologize. After re-reading your original post, it is now clear that restoring the data is not as important as assigning blame for how it got that way. Some want to fix things and move on with life, others like the drama of the battle. Sorry then, I've not seen any host do this maliciously to anyone, nor do I see a way you could prove they did, if they did. If you want to get the data restored, I feel confident there exists a way to do so. I cannot help you further. Best of luck!

its not my stuff,im just helping and the owner would like to know what happend...
and i can understand him...a website that got trashed somehow and and the same time weird things happen and at the same time php stops working .
but like said.....its better to move on...there isnt always an answer....

nuke_events is a table that was used for the Event_Calendar module by Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login!. by default, the hometext column is set to type blob which might be the reason why you see the hex.
