Hi

I know this isnt really the ideal place to be posting about this but Im hoping someone here will be able to help

Im new to xml so please bear with me

Ive picked up a web template online and seems to be having difficulty editing it.

It comes as an .swf with an .xml to edit text, links etc

I have done some partial edits and have encountered a few problems;

1. Links on the main page have flash images as a background. When running locally these images sit immediately behind the text however when hosted 4 out of 5 of the links become out of sync from the images.

I have attached a screenshot to give a better idea

Image

2. CDATA does not appear to be displaying at all when hosted. Again everything works fine locally.

Here is a sample of the code that displays correctly when run locally but vanishes when hosted.

Code:

<page name="services">

<texts>

<pageText>
Services
</pageText>

<pageText>
About our services
</pageText>

<pageText>
</pageText>

<pageText>
Unique service
</pageText>

The text, Services, About our services and Unique Service does not display when hosted.

The dummy text displays correctly both locally and hosted.

I am running firefox although this is confirmed to be displaying the same in IE. I use firefox when viewing locally.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Unfortunately, not sure how many here are familiar with .swf. I can see the text "Services" in your hosted image version and I don't see any of the other text items that you reference even in your local version, so it is a bit confusing as to what is and is not working properly. One thing you may want to check is with your hosts version and configuration of ShockWave support? Is there something server-side that needs to be configured properly in order for all the right components to be delivered to the browser? (As you can tell, I'm reaching here big time as I don't really know anything about ShockWave. Just trying what I can to help.)

Can you try this:

Code:

<page name="services">

<texts>

<pageText>
Services
</pageText>

<pageText>
About our services
</pageText>

<pageText>

Hi Whitehat

My initial thought was font color too but this proved incorrect, I appreciate the thoughts though, probably should of mentioned that.

With regards to your questions Montego I am including some further information that might help.

As I mentioned before I am pretty sure that it is an issue with the CDATA and its compatibility with the server, I am having the host check this as I type.

Here is another example.

This shows a screenshot of the services page (run locally) I was refering to in my original post. You can see all pictures and text displays correctly.

Screenshot of the same page when hosted

Here is a section of that code

Code:
<page name="services">

<texts>

<pageText>
Services

<pageText>

</pageText>

<pageText>

P.S: Montego if you are able/willing to help outside of the forums I would be happy to supply you with ftp details.

v3x-uk, unfortunately I would be of no help as I have NO experience with SWF as I said above here:

Merely trying to draw out information from you that might help others help you or give you ideas. Sorry.

Just a thought... are you viewing a cached page?

Also, would you be willing to provide a link to the page?

Might also check into these two tools

Thought I would let you guys know that I fixed this issue after some trial and error.

It seems that the server required me to have my CDATA all on one line with further lines wordwrapped.

Soo.. I changed this

Code:
<pageText>

Services
</pageText>

to this

Code:
<pageText>Services</pageText>

Strange but worked Smile

Thanks for all the help and hopefully this might help someone else!
