TOpics module affected by MySQL version

My host recently upgraded MySQL from 4 to 5. Ever since then my Topics module only displays this:

There aren't any news yet for this topic

Anyone seen this before. This is not a fluke, It happened on both my Nuke sites.

I think a simpler fix would be to put the back ticks around reads, like this: `reads`

If you like the RavenNuke Topics, you could also replace what you have with it, as this is not an issue with the advanced Topics module that is in RN.
